Not revving past 4200 rpm

Picked up my Ty this past Friday and I love it. I have found a few issues with it. Seems the previous owner had issues as well just search 0722. The Ty is full of mods and is really clean and well taken care of. First issue is it seems to run really rich. Afpr is adjusted to 40 psi with vacuum tube off. I did find a cracked vacuum line that tees in to the Afpr and replaced that. Still idles kinda rough. Cleaned the idle control and reinstalled it. Ordered a new one just in case. At wot it revs good up to 4000 and then starts to sputter. Downshift to 3rd at 60 and wot it sputters and shifts at 4200. Will not rev past that boost gauge on pillar shows 15 psi of boost. Here are a list of mods. I have not pulled a plug yet but will tomorrow. Check engine light will come on but soon turns off. Thanks guys for any help you can give.

Re: Not revving past 4200 rpm

Did a little reading on the 4.3. Is there an issue with upper/lower intake manifold gaskets? Reason I am asking is I am getting a lot of suction from the oil filler tube. When I remove the cap it idles great. No stumbles or anything but a lot of suction. Put the cap back on and it starts to smell like fuel and rough idle.

There has been problems with the lower intake manifold gasket when using the cheaper felpro gaskets, but that usually causes the engine to suck coolant and not oil. I would check you PCV valve if you have not cause it sounds like it could be stuck open.

You are going to have to start with the basics. You bought a truck and you don't know how or when its been maintained last. Pull the plugs and see what they look like. Check the gap. Pull the cap and see what it looks like. Stretch a bicycle tube over the intake pipe with one end tied off and pressurize it with compressed air and listen for leaks. Fix any you find.

If the tach flutters its usually an ignition issue. I would start with the basics as the previous poster mentioned.

Re: Not revving past 4200 rpm

Gonna start with looking at the plugs, cap, rotor and wires this weekend. Just wondering why it has a strong suction from the oil fill and rich exhaust smell especially at start up?

Did the paper clip trick today to pull codes. Got a 38 (tps) and a 14 (cts). Reset codes and now I only have a 14 again. Which coolant sensor could it be? Also does anything in these pictures look out of place?

Also found this unplugged. Did this go to the intercooler pump. Unplugged since I have a rpm intercooler?

Re: Not revving past 4200 rpm

If this is the coolant sensor to the ecm, could this be my the cause of my idle issues? What sensor is that to the left next to the heater hose? My temp gauge barely gets over 100 and the electric fans come on

Re: Not revving past 4200 rpm

I wonder what that other sensor is there for. It looks like it's hooked up to the relays on the firewall? Since I have an rpm stage 1 turbo the boost control solenoid plug is not needed? I know it is set at 15psi or that's what it is at wot on the aftermarket gauge. Anyway to adjust the boost? Thanks for the help sytyguy

Re: Not revving past 4200 rpm

Do you have a water temp gauge in the truck (aside from the stock one)? Does it tie with the methanol kit in any way (can't imagine why it would, but I've never installed a Snow kit before)?

Out of those relays, where do the purple and yellow wires go?

temp sender for the electric cooling fans .

No water temp gauge other than the factory gauge. I do have a 3 gauge pillar with boost, egt and wideband. Went ahead and replaced the coolant temp sender. I will have to trace down the purple and yellow wires. Some could possibly go to the electric fans,

If the yellow wires on those two relays are hot in IGN, then yes, they are for the cooling fans.

HOWEVER: The firewall junction block is a terrible place to pick up B+ for the fans. (The red wires on the relays). B+ for fans should come from directly from the output stud on the rear of the alternator. The stock wiring between the alternator and the junction block isn't adequate for the added load of dual cooling fans.

Should I move the yellow wires to the output stud on the alternator? This was already wired this way when I purchased the vehicle. I would hate to burn something up
