just curious if anyone here knows right off hand where the engine block vin would be. I have been checking out trucks thats engines have been " rebuilt" but I don't want something with a cheap cast autozone short block in it. If anyone knows please help.

drivers side on the bock on the rear, small pad the VIN is etched in, the trans and T-case have a code on them also but without the PAs paperwork you cant tell

Re: number matching?

thank you! does this vin directly correspond to the trucks vin? I assume it must but I tried this before with a classic vehicle that I knew was original and it didn't match. I found out later that there were only like 5 numbers that were the identifying numbers.

My original block says TM8802661

I think the T stands for Tonwanda (engine plant), M is 91 and M8802661 match the last digits of my VIN.

Re: number matching?

thats what I was looking for! I could check it off my 93 s-10 daily driver but that doesn't mean anything when it comes to factory specialty vehicls.

Etched !! - So if the pad is covered with thick rust there isn't a good chance of figuring out what that number is.

Atleast at this point in time, I think you probably still recover the numbers if you wire brushed it (unless maybe it had some extraordinary rust circumstances) The numbers weren't super shallow. I couldn't read my numbers until I cleaned the pad of road grime.
