Re: OE GM converter that has higher stall

are you going to inform us when your transmission goes back for warrenty issues?

Hahaha! I don't mean to laugh but I was thinking the same thing. I think it won't be long before it's back out of the truck. I hope not though...

Re: OE GM converter that has higher stall

I hope where ever you're taking the trans know the difference between a 700r4 and a syty 700r4 otherwise we'll be telling you we told you so.

Guys, What are the differences?
Does anyone actually know? It would be useful, so people can make sure the shop they use has a handle on what is required on their rebuild. I'd just like to be able to know the major and I suppose any subtle differences in our trannys, or, for that matter be able to make a more informed decision if (or is it when) I need my tranny fixing.
What are the differences? (what upgrades are required ? Beast sunshell? 4l65E parts?)
I know the valve body is SyTy specific, I believe it uses the larger 'vette' servo, probabably governer too. I'm sure attential to detail, clearances and endfloat etc are vital.

So, What are the difference? Not everyone has access to an 'expert' on these trannys, and cost is prohibitive for me anyway to sending a core across the Atlantic for rebuild.

I know there are a few guys on here that know how to build them, but having searched, (Yes many posts in the past on this subject) I haven't been able to find out what is 'required'. In fact, some posts seem to contradict to confuse matters even further with reference to which friction plates are most appropriate, but maybe this is just personal choice etc. I realise that some guys don't like sharing their secrets and they build these things as a business sideline. But if someone was willing to share this, many on here might all only need one rebuild.
This is Not a meant as a rant, its just an open question because I'd just like to know more and make sure if the time comes, I'm not posting on here with a broken rebuild asking this same question. Now if this info has been posted, I've missed it, please someone point me in the right direction
TIA Dave

Re: OE GM converter that has higher stall

The stock SyTy converters have a coded sticker or tag on them. I just had the original trans built by Mikes Transmissions in CA. Very good reputation. Anyway I took him a stock Sy converter to flush and use for the trans. He took the code off it and got a reman unit that is the correct stall speed. He also put in a new GM govenor for the SY/TY. The orig trans I left them had been rebuilt a few times and I told him just make it as close to stock as possible, as well as reliable. When I got this Typhoon it was apart, original Typhoon converter was not with any of the parts. Did get a new Vigilante in the box though with it and used it in my slowly going together built Syclone. Leaving this Typhoon stock. Orig chip has never been out of it. Would like to find an orig cat back exhaust though. Currently has a Borla.

mostly the problem is they just give you another 700r4 and your syty spec. valvebody ends up in someone else his 700r4. you will burn the clutches because it doesn't shift hard enough.,

Re: OE GM converter that has higher stall

So do you have to request that your valvebody remains with your 700r4?

Why would they do that?

because they think youre a dick with a syty, and they they think it's just an avarage 99.9% 700r4
