Oil filter sandwich adapter

Re: Oil filter sandwich adapter

I am unsure if it is accurate place or not, but I would look at attempting to tap the remote (if you still have it) first, maybe Dave will chime in on the accuracy of my placement idea.

Otherwise it looks like a good piece, my only other thought is will the thickness of this put you in danger of hitting your oil filter on the front prop shaft.

Re: Oil filter sandwich adapter

yea i bought the exact one pictured for another project, but got me thinking. for people who still have remote (not me) could be a great way for temp/pressure. but you are prob right about it not working on the block setup. dont know how i had forgotten how little room there is to get that filter in. guess i have not changed the oil in a while since the truck is broke

Re: Oil filter sandwich adapter

FWIW, you can run a tee underneath the existing elbow for the oil pressure sender that will allow you to add in an extra (aftermarket) sending unit. Oil temp is a far less useful reading for us than oil pressure, so I could only justify (personally) adding an accurate pressure gauge. Me and Waller did some oil temp testing back in the late 90's and there was very little impact on temp from repeated WOT stress and/or removal of the lines/relocation block/cooler. Oil type/weight had a far greater impact than any of the above.

I am sure you did, is there a write up on this somewhere to read about the type/weight info you guys came up with?

Not sure if we did a write-up or not. We started it back on the old mailing list and the board was launched while we were doing this. Not sure we made the effort to record that data here.

Edit - Search shows nada. Lemme look through some old hard drives and cloud accounts.

Re: Oil filter sandwich adapter

I actually have the exact one you pictured. It seems like a good idea. It only lasted for a little while on my STI due to fitment issues with new headers that I installed. If you are looking for one for a Subaru, let me know.

i ordered that one last night cause i needed it like NOW. oh well thanks anyway

That is what I did before dropping my engine in. Went to Lowes and bought all the fittings. Stock oil pressure gauge sucked so bad. I had to get a accurate reading.

If you guys want something super easy to get to, tee off the turbo oil supply line. I did it there and the gauge readings reflect each other. You can get your temp there as well. The oil pressure location is a mofo to get to, much much easier at the turbo oil supply line.

Good call Damian. ...didn't even think of that. ...but that's why I like you. ...haha

Re: Oil filter sandwich adapter

I wasn't about to pull the intake manifold off just to get to the oil pressure sensor. If anything, the turbo feed line is actually closer to the oil pump.
