overboosting

I am having a problem with my Syclone overboosting. I changed the intake to a stock one that is ported and polished, I also changed the heads to a set of vortex ported and polished with a comp cams cam (422). I have the stock turbo with and adjustable fuel pressure regulator, 60 pound injectors with a chip burned for them. I have a cold air box from atr and their AUX intercooler. The turbo now jumps up to 30 pounds of boost when you get on it. I also changed the wastegate thinking this might be the problem but no luck. It is the stock wastegate. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: overboosting

Maybe the programming of your wastegate needs tweaking?
You have the stock solenoid for the wastegate?

You can port your wastegate hole.
Install a larger wastegate valve.
Install a larger 3" downpipe.
Loosen up ( lengthen) your actuator rod.
Make sure their are no problems w/your hoses. Holes in them?
Make sure the hoses are connected correctly.

Their are more things to look at, & the people here will chime in.

That large of a cam and vortec heads are not going to work well with the tiny, stock turbine housing. They are creating a heck of a lot more flow than the stock housing can deal with. Opening up the wastegate service port on the stock housing and using one of Jeff's 3" downpipes would probably help, but your combo is really begging for a bigger turbo.

Run a hose from the turbo directly to the servo canister (bypass the WG solenoid).
See what you get for boost.... if it's still high, your WG canister has a leak, or the arm is sticking once the turbo gets hot.

Re: overboosting

What size turbo would you suggest? Everything to deal with the turbo is stock (turbo and wastegate). So it sounds like you think it might have something to do with the vaccum. It should not overboost with the stock wastegate correct?

Re: overboosting

It could overboost w/a stock wastegate.
Does your wastegate move freely?
What is the stall on your torque converter? Do you plan on changing it?

Hook up a hose to your wastegate actuator & apply 10 psi of regulated air pressure to see if the wastegate moves.

Who did or E.C.M. mod. May want to check with them AFTER you check all the hoses canister etc. as recomended above. Wouldn't be the first or last time for a new burn "oopsie".

Decent ported Vortecs and and intake with exhaust, you can use just about ant turbo you want. Talk to Waller about his upgrades or R.P.M. for their's. I wanted to go a little larger so I got a P.T.E. 67 Dual BB  !
