Overhead console in a Sy/ GT **NOW WITH PICS**

Anyone on here happen to know how long the overhead console in a Typhoon is, versus how long the roof of a Sy is?

And, does anyone care to snap a few pics of the headliner above the rear window in a Sy or GT for me?

What did you find out? I tried to do some research on this and everything I found was that it wont fit without modification ( too long ) did you come up with something else?

The have small ones without all the storage compartments.

I mention it every time this gets brought up.

8-10" maybe?

Re: Overhead console in a Sy/ GT

according to preliminary measurements, this will all work out nicely.
The roof console in my 93 (2 door style) is 30 1/4 inches is length from front to rear, not including the 3/4" at between it and the headliner edge up front

The cab in the sonoma, from the front edge of the headliner to the back edge of the dome lamp (approx 1/2" from rear glass) is 31 1/2" ... which gives us 30 3/4" if you subtract the distance at the headliner.

Going to triple check everything tonight, and I'm going to get a bellhousing tomorrow so I will pick up a console too.

And Midnightblu.... the whole reason for having the overhead is for those compartments / the map lights  ... I am eventually going to get a new model console to steal the homelink panel and temp display out of.

What is a homelink panel? Is it just the compass?

Might help a little more if you throw out a part number for that.. And what year/model maybe.

it replaces the garage door opener panel... it has three built in transmitters

I thought you were talking about the longer console, not the little one.

Is anyone getting these for a GP or is there a link that we can get them from? I am really interested because I love the Homelink setup that I have in the Denali. Let me know please. Thanks.

I'm really liking the idea, but I was thinking more so I could mount 1 or 2 more gauges up there, less important but needed ones.

Here you go:
1994 bravada console, also the front half of the bravada's headliner (and the second visors that I added as well)

Front support bracket mounted
100_0852.jpg

Console trimmed (ended up trimming another 1/2" or so and rounding the corners to fit the roofline)
100_0857.jpg

Finished install (there is a 3/8" gap towards the front right now, but it can be eliminated with a center screw which I am going to add soon)

Took me around 2 hours (not including time spent cleaning some surface rust off the roof and deciding whether or not I wanted to weld in a bracket for the grab handle, just going to patch those holes instead)
Cost: $40 at my local junkyard

You can use one from a 1998 or 1999 suburban, which has homelink in it, instead of the S10 model, and that will give you a blank panel to fit 3 2 1/8 gauges as well

And yes, I know I have hanging mirror syndrome

Re: Overhead console in a Sy/ GT **NOW WITH PICS**

Hm. I like everything bu that rear light. I took the bulb out of mine. So that would look really good in mine without that there. I never use it. And with the added lights in that console, as well as the mirror ones. I'm sure it would be enough light. Good job!

You know what would be really cool. If you could grab the rear seat overhead console that has the AC in them and use it.

Now I'm just getting silly, I know. lol.

If you did, you could take the A/C panel out and mount 3 gauges up there  Those ones also do not have a rear light on them, which would eliminate the trimming and probably the replacement of the headliner (I had to do mine anyway, the old one was stapled up)

Do you need to install the front tab? I noticed that there is already a hole in the forward cab panel that might work for mounting the front. What about the rear portion? How did you secure that to the roof panel?
