PA Sy #0381 carnage (pics)

well...a Syclone thats fairly close to me recently blew up. He's a board member and will claim these pics soon. :tup:

Apparently he heard/felt a decently loud CLANK while driving and immediately the motor seemed to have seized up. Well it leaked oil, and he noticed a nice sized hole in his oil pan. So obviously threw a rod....well thats all he thought had happened :lol:

He finally pulled the motor. The pictures tell a little more of the story.

pretty nice sized hole. So you know you gotta pull the pan off ASAP to inspect the damage. Well....apparently the oil pan was a little heavy. :rotf:

So I guess the crank my be scored. He might need to have it turned down. Actually maybe he should just get a new one.

Looks like 4 bolt mains aren't all they're cracked up to be. Maybe billet mains are in order?? :lol:

im thinking that made more noise than just a clank...... oil drain plug might be reusable..

Wow, when mine went it broke the crank at the #5 journal, but actually kept running for a couple miles down the freeway till i decided to just have it towed instead of tryin to rice it home. But i didnt throw any parts. Thats some nasty carnage there.

Is the block salvagable?

I have never seen a 4 bolt crank break like that.......unbelievable........well ...almost.

Damn I look at that mess and I see $$$$$$$$$$ . There's a few bucks gone. Hopefully the block can be reused and when he rebuilds it, he puts the good stuff in there.

To me it looks as though the crank let go, causing the 4 bolt mains to bust, in turn twisting the rods, It "looks" as though tht block may be ok, from what I can see. I think someone will be looking for a billet crank soon?

what a damn shame. where you driving it hard when this happened or was this just really bad luck while driving normally? makes me wanna pull my motor and SERIOUSLY build the bottom end.

That is how my ty engine looked when I got it. Holes in the oilpan and a Huge triangle shape missing from the outside of the block through the cylinder walls. Not fun.

Thats the SAD part.... I wish I was driving it hard when it happened!! All I did was give it some gas to merge into traffic and BANG!! I think i would have been even more proud if it would have broke under 20#s of boost!!

Maybe I still should be PROUD of this one anyway!

Was that just a factory crank.....or was it one of the Nitrided ones.....?
