:squint: Ewwww, that'll make your pu$$y hurt for sure.....ouchy !
It seems I rarely have a part break under race conditions, but rather when letting off or just beginning to move.
Best of luck funding the rebuild friend.......I hope I can avoid that for a long time.
My best................Vinny

That happened to me about one year ago this past August. My rod bolt broke and the little Gremlins pulled the pin on that dreaded grenade. Thousands of dollars later I've almost got it running again.
Good luck finding a billet steel crank. I settled for a GM Performance and sent it to get cryoed. McCoys helped me with some parts and he does machine some billet caps. I bought some from him.

Lots of luck with the rebuild, and believe me when I say " I really feel your pain" Other people may laugh but it's not humorous at all, is it?

looks like that engine was rebuilt before, was that crank ever magnafluxed?
Yes the motor was rebuilt before. Im not sure exactly what was done to the crank. The name of his business is RODLAND'S CRANK GRINDING SERVICE. You would think he would have known what the hell he was doing. He defentanly isnt getting any more of my money. that motor cost me 2,200 bucks!! I was new to the SYTY world and didnt know where to turn. I have made alot of new friends now that are steering me right this time.

Worst I've ever seen, in a SB anyway. I once saw a Cummins (diesel) that let go at the wrist pin, the rod and crank stayed together and the rod cut the engine in two. Impressive. That one's right up there I have to admit! No fun...

I see no reason NOT to go back to who built it looks like all the bolts he put in are still there, hell even the bearing journals look to be in excelent shape. Another reason I hate the internet Useless bashing of obviously decent work  . You cracked the crank on a prevoius hard run, and possibly already had a main cap missing but at least cracked, (where the hell did you get those 4 bolts from? not that i have them in my hand, but they don't even look to be nodular iron caps, ALWAYS use billet caps there worth the money! Cheap insurance!!! Don't ya wish you'da bought them now?) That last little bit you gave it trying to merge was the straw that broke the horses back and it couldn't take it.

Just a word. Your engine looks pretty clean.Looks like you didn't have very many miles on it. You could almost eat off of it. Sorry for the bad luck.

Well there is other reasons other then this broken crank for me not to go back to him. I had other problems when the motor was first built (it smoked) he wouldnt stand behind his work and he lied to me. So someone like that isnt getting any more of my business. Sorry to have ofended you with that comment, but i had alot of hard feelings about my old engine builder but now I can care less. Its going to be better now. I have got alot of good advice now and good ideas on what good parts to buy this time.

I hear you on being new and not knowing where to turn. When I bought mine with the blown engine, I had little money, and little knowledge on who I could trust buying an engine from. This was all before the big dogs came out with their 8-9-10 second trucks. I went with a GM crate syty engine. I sometimes feel like I might be running around with a time bomb, but it has actually proven itself pretty reliable at 19psi and with the bigger turbo. I have seen detoantion a few times and it has been fine when I got out of it.

Same story from previous owner of my ty. He broke it when just driving to work one day. Never a problem when he was running 21-22 psi through a stock turbo on race fuel...
