Painting entire Sy, need suggestions..........

Contrary to popular belief, black is not black when it comes to paints. There are a lot of shades available. What shade or car on the market has the best black. I like the stock black but I'm sure there is a blacker black!

Need some help here!

Thanks Vince

volvo is the only black black i remember the sy is brown black and most ford is blue black. if you have the $$$$ house of colors triple black wet sand then clear, the wetsand again the clear it again. we did my buddys GN this way and is does 24.5 on the ruler test.

Vince, I am going to repaint mine sometime next month and remember my name and let me know how it turns out and what black you end up with. Have pics too when your complete. The only question I guess I would have if I were you would be, getting the metal black and shiney is one thing but how do you make the cladding worth being on the body??? Tricky but I know it possible. 0X

I would ask for midnight black.
That seems to be the deepest black.

Lay lots of clear on it to give it depth and prevent swirls.

Look at the paint chips and take them outside in the sun to your truck to compare to.

Also, ask for spray out or spray card of your colors before hand.
I can't emphasize enough the importance of this step..^..

Last truck I painted I used single stage SIKKENS "straight black". Its actually meant to be used to mix with other pigments for "tinting" paint to match.

Anyway, it was the blackest black I could find and once done it looked like it was a mile deep and dark enough the truck dissapeared when the sun went down. Sinister looking is the best description I have for it.

When I do the frame off "restoration" on myclone in the next ~5yrs thats what Im using on it.

Im guessing this is where you hold it at a right angle to the paint and read the highest legible number??

As some of ya know, I'm gonna be getting my entire Ty a new paint job very soon. I was just about to make a post like this to get some advice & suggestions. I've found the shop I want to do it, and I'm gonna be making a trip there tomorrow morning just to tell them what I want done and get a price.
I'm going to do it the right way. I don't want to spare any expense on this. Everything (cladding, windows, etc..) is getting removed, sanded down to bare metal, sprayed and lots of clear coat.
I'm keeping it the same color (blk/gry) but I'm lookin to get the deepest blackest black I can get and I think I'm going to add a pearl flake to the gray in the cladding.

I was going to go with "Tripple Black" cause I've heard it's the darkest, but I thought PPG made "Tripple Black". Or does PPG just make the House of Color brand? And what exactly is the "ruler test"?

Roberto recomended Sikkens to me in THIS post. So now I'm not sure which to get. Anyone have any experience with "Tripple Black" and "Sikkens" or any other black black paint that can give some opinions?
Also, I know some type of flex agent needs to be added to the cladding to prevent cracks from forming over time. But is it a good idea to apply the same stuff to the paint that goes on the body? And how many coats of clear is recomended to keep it swirl free and looking very deep? 2? 3?

Jas, care to explain why that's so important?

Clear coat(s) do not prevent swirls. Improper washing and waxing will scratch any color paint including clear. Swirls are very small scratches.

Yeah, I know it doesn't prevent them, but I figured the more coats of it the harder they'd be to see. I can't stand swirl marks and my truck is full of em.

if you are going to repaint 2 coats of clear will make swirl marks leff visible but the best bet is dont get the truck dirty then you dont have to wash it and give it swirl marks,

After this paint job, it will NEVER see rain again.
