Painting my SY-here are the pics

My SY will be getting repainted on Memorial Day weekend!! I recently purchased a cowl induction hood for it. I'm excited to get some fresh paint on it as the original paint is starting to show its age. The Texas weather and sun did it no justice last year. The roof desparately needs repainted as the spot has went from popcan size to nearly half of the passenger side of the truck. The cladding has always annoyed me with it's shades of grey. I'm also having the headliner redone with a similar material used on the doors & seats. I used to work in an autobody shop and start this process tomorrow. My friends at the shop have agreed to let me use their paint booth. I will get some pics up here throughout the week.

That is great news. I want to finish my frame and then do the same thing. Can't wait to see the pics. Where did you get your cowl hood from?

An older gentleman who had it on a red ext cab 4x4 with topper. He wanted it back to original I guess. Really nice guy. It is all steel and may be a Goodmark but am not sure. $225 & no shipping.

Jay, congrats on painting your truck, I just got mine done and it looks bad ass. It brings a smile to my face every time I look at it. I dont know who is painting it or removing the cladding but tell the body shop to be carefull with the cladding tabs and whatnot. I asked "Jerry's" who painted mine to please be carefull with the parts. The owner jerry says to me "We dont break stuff, we just paint it" OK, sounds good enough. First I get the L/F fender cladding back and one tab has been broken but reattached. OK not that big of a deal, they did fix it and admit to it. So the following week my dad goes to pick up the R/F cladding and a few other things. Well I get in the jeep and drive to my storage to install the R/F cladding and find 2 of the tabs broken and missing. Im like WTF. And to top it all off I had brought them 2 L/F fender claddings cause I had an extras one. Well the dumb ass who painted them decided to throw one away because one looked better then the other. So now the body shop owe's me a Brand new, NOS L/F fender cladding. It sux but they said they will find one and take care of everything. All I am saying is if you never dealt with them before to watch out. Inspect everything right away when you get it back. Also I have a list of everything I used to reattach the cladding. All the rivets, screws, speed clips etc... Let me know if you need any help with that.

Thanks for the advice. I'm actually diassembling the truck, sanding, prepping & painting it. I used to do bodywork years ago. I have friends who own a body shop & they are letting me use their paint booth & shop.

That's awesome Jay. Good luck. I'm trying to see if my friend can paint my truck at his shop on the side...once I get it running right that is. Are you going ALL black or are you painting the cladding Gray?

NJ93TY your paint job looks sick. That black is like a mirror. Be sure to take lots of pics when it is back together.

Gooche26, thanks for the compliment, yes I will post pics when I am done. I am in the process of upgrading my turbo and intercooler. Then rear disc brakes. Its just a matter of being able to spend time on my truck.

It will be all black. I like the painted cladding look.

jay,

whats the deal with losing the wiper setup?

and those tail lights aren't my style.. might I suggest picking up a stock set, some vht nightshade and clear coat. Would look much nicer in my opinion and is what I have

Just an idea while your painting stuff
I was thinking about "blacking out" the ones on it but havent decided.
I plan on only driving it in nice weather. Trailering to car shows & drags. I'm trying to lose weight off it. I will be removing the AC also.

Re: Painting my SY-here are the pics

have you done anything to your cladding? aren't you afraid that if you painted the truck with the cladding attached, it might move and causing the paint to crack? i've been wondering this for quite some time. going to have my Sy painted and thought about going this route, but this problem his holding me back.
