Passed smog FINALLY

I must have a gazillion posts here on this but it finally passed today.

Went to the smog shop yesterday after my repairs (intake gaskets) and it still doesn't pass. But, I got the smog tech that used to be a GM tech by himself, which hadn't happened before, and he proceeded to tell me what and why it wasn't passing. Stuff like there being three "beds" in the cat and one of them wasn't working. Off to the muffler shop for a new cat. Back to the smog shop today and, luckily, the same guy is working. Passed fine.
So, although most if not all the repairs were helpful (and actually made improvements, however small) what was really necessary was a correct diagnosis of the bad cat. What was throwing everyone was that the cat was less than a year old. We think it was prolly bad to start with. Geez...

Did you still use a 3" cat?
Did you try alcohol?
Unplug the tan wire?

In a nutshell it seems my original "new" cat was NFG. I had bought from EBay a long time ago and just had it in the garage so this will go down as lesson learned.

One other item which has been mentioned before many time is I lowered the FP to about 35#. That's static, engine off, FP running. Exactly how difference that made, if any, I couldn't tell since I lowered it after the new cat install and before I went back to the smog shop. Figuring every little bit helps.

Don, What were the new readings after it past the smog test? Idle and 2500rpm.
