Somebody have pics of where the purple wire begins and ends. Actually I know where it ends, on the starter, but how bout which wiring harness it begins at, goes too? I've checked the vault and everywhere else but all pics are missing or have been removed. Thanks.

Well, the "purple" ignition wire eventually finds its way to your ignition switch on your steering column. If you are needing to repair the wire, Id splice into it here, sitting on top of the brake booster...

You will find find the wire within the split-loom conduit

Yup there are three of them in the loom over the power brake booster. The largest one of the three is the one that you want.

Well nice ! Here's what the other end usually looks like when you start having "hot start" problems:

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXThanks everyone, worked like a charm. XXXXXXX

 Ha Ha, just kidding. So I replaced my purple wire but today when getting gas it F'd up again!! I turn the key and I just get a click. I keep turning the ignition back and forth, back and forth, click, click and then finally it cranks over after between the 3rd or 5th click.

THis shit makes me nervous to go anywhere farther then 15miles away. Anybody know what else is left after replacing the purple wire, starter, and putting in a new ignition switch? This is gettin LAME.

Thanks.

After talking with some bros and doing some searching it sounds like I definitly need a HOTSHOT relay. Any ideas where I can get one quick?

Re: Pics of purple wire begining and end?

A hot shot relay is just your normal 12V DPDT relay.

What happens is the voltage headed for your starter solenoid goes through the ignition switch as well as the park neutral switch.
So by the time it gets to the solenoid there is a significant voltage drop and there isnt enough juice left to fully engage the solenoid, that's the click you hear.

By running a relay to supply power directly from the battery to the starter solenoid all you are using the purple wire's voltage for is to trigger the relay (minimal current required). the relay closes and you get full voltage from your battery to the solenoid.

I have not had one click no start since installing a relay.

So when you say "your normal 12V DPDT relay" you mean to ask for this at the parts counter and they most likely will know what I'm asking for, yes? Thanks.

I don't start a fire under the hood...LOL.

Or you could just replace the little ignition switch/box up on top of the steering column.. Most likely the contacts in that are worn and not supplying the necessary current to the solenoid(basically a big relay) on the starter.

Good luck,
