Pinging at high boost, highway speeds.

[I have a hypertech chip and some problems. At highway speeds I get some pinging on high boost acceleration. I am running 104 octane now and that has eliminated it for the most part but I dont want to have to continue to run an expensive fuel. Anyone else have this issue? Suggestions on how to fix? Thanks

I'd say the simplest fix would be to remove the Hypertech chip....

You either have too much timing or too little fuel in the area where you are seeing (hearing) the ping.

Re: Pinging at high boost, highway speeds.

Im in the process of getting a stock chip. I no longer have the original, the previous owner did not include it with the truck and of course I didnt notice the issue on the test drive. Is the timing or fuel issue something that can be adjusted to compensate and therefore eliminate the ping? Is it even worth it to start dicking around with it, Im not sure what type of gaines the chip even provides. thanks again, John

Re: Pinging at high boost, highway speeds.

Its been proven over and over again, that Hypertech (along with quite a few other large companies) make very few changes to their chips. An off the shelf chip will work OK for some, make little difference to others, and even harm a few combinations. The best chip or tune is one you do yourself (or have done for you) personally tailored for your driving style and combination.

Did you look at your chip? Often, a hypertech is an apapter that the factory memcal (with chip) clips onto. Your stock chip might be right there in the ECM piggybacked on the Hypertech.
