Can anyone help me with this? Do you have to remove the steering box to remove the pitman arm?

It's much much easier. You could do it without, but really it's just a hassle.

You could also put in a zq8 steering box at same time if you have not already.

Are you also replacing the idler arm?

I'm replacing the whole front end. I'm waiting for sportmachines to get the upper lower control arms in stock.

Has anyone used the steering box from sportmachines?

The borgeson boxes are nice. Expensive though compared to the standard zq8 box. I think those can still be pretty well below $200.

I have to do this to my truck, ASAP.

I determined that I need to remove the steering box from the steering shaft, remove pitman from center link then completely remove the steering box from truck. I guess once it's all out it possible to remove the pitman from the box on a bench top.

Seems to be a pretty straight forward job. I'm hoping I can get to mine as well soon.

I don't think you have ever replaced a Pittman arm with the box either in or out of a 1st Gen 4X4 S-Series.
