Wow amazing. I think this is already way more than doctors thought. Hopefully his young age possibly helps in a fast recovery!

He has by far exceeded the Dr's expectations already. The Dr's underestimate the power of prayer and the determination of Michael. He's a miracle in the making.

Right on! Kid has truly amazing will power. He is actually an inspiration to those suffering serious illness fighting to get well. Gives power and motivation to keep trying. The "want" you need to recover. Keep up the high spirits!

God made him high-strung, energetic, and hard-headed for this reason. He's one determined little dude.

Amazing. Tennesseans are special!

Thanks Steve. Stories like this make me proud to be from the Volunteer State. :)

From PJ & Timberly....

"Don't forget to check out the story of Michael on the SEC network tonight at 7:30 central time. It will be a segment within the Vanderbilt special and should be on towards the end."

Great news!

"I got the results and I hope you are sitting down. Michael is now medically classified as conscious. He gained 5 huge points on his coma testing and we no longer have to judge him by that anymore!!!!! This is huge and such an answer to prayers. It gets even better. Today he was given as a reward for doing so well on his testing coke (which wasn't thickened) and he swallowed it like a champ. He was also given pudding which he cleared and swallowed well also but the best part is they gave him the marshmallows from lucky charms (which as you know are hard at 1st and then dissolve) and he ate them!!!!!!!! He chewed them and used his tongue to move it to his teeth. Today has been so amazing and prayers are and will continue to be answered!"

Update.....
"They just told me this morning that insurance just called them and are going to stop approving coverage for here on the 29th. The doctor here had to get on the phone with one of their doctors just to fight to keep him here till the 29th. The large equipment that they are starting to order will start showing up at the house soon (like the bed and lift system). Start praying that we can change their minds and he can stay here longer because he is making great improvements everyday."

Brian,
I know that PJ appreciates everything and offering to accept donations and pay it forward to them is a noble and great gesture. But with the few issues that have popped up over the past year or so on here of vendors/members disappearing with money, I can see where the community here may be hesitant. I don't have any doubts at all of your intentions, but could understand the hesitation from the SyTyers here. Hope that makes sense and definitely don't take it the wrong way please.

On a side note and to piggyback off of Joe's comment above, I know that PJ has been looking around at getting a wheelchair equipped van, and from what I have seen, the cost on those are pretty damn high (around $45k or so if i recall correctly). Add on the changes that are going to be made for the home when Michael comes back, and I am sure that the financial mountain is a high one. So I know that any financial assistance that's available would be greatly appreciated. Being that the GoFundMe is still up, I would encourage anyone who may be able to offer some assistance to please do so. Every little bit will help.

As far as insurance wanting to cut off coverage on the 29th, what bullshit. It enrages me when insurance companies care more about their bottom line than they do covering their obligations. Insurance companies want their premiums on time and all of their "conditions" met, but the second that someone needs insurance, they do their best to cover as minimal as possible. I hope that the doctors can help in getting insurance to do their damn job which they are paid for.

Seeing the progress that Michael is making is encouraging and should show us all that when we really want it and fight for it, we can overcome what others say is impossible to do. With Michael continuing fighting against the odds, I hope that he continues to improve far beyond what any doctor believes.

And the way that PJ and his wife and family are handling things, they are stronger than I could ever be. When your life changes on dime like theirs has, it's easy to get pissed off, frustrated, angry at the world and question everything. But they are standing tall through all of this, no matter how hard it might be. And I am humbled by their strength and attitude.

Anyways, great progress Michael and keep up the fight. You're getting there. And if anyone has an extra buck or two to donate, please do.

For someone like myself that has been on here for many years(12) and is also financially stable to even think that someone would use this as a money scam is crazy to me. Guys on here have no problems sending money to each other for misc items and cant throw in even twenty dollars for something like this situation makes me disgusted honestly.I am not going to turn this thread into something negative, you guys are big boys and can make your own decisions.

Re: PJs97Talon Needs The Thoughts/Prayers Of The Community...

Here is a update.. We have a few guys helping out and that is great! Here is the letter below that is between my wife and the organizer of the event. I myself have donated almost the required amount. I will be sending over the paypal donations asap. I am totally aware of the go fund me but this is something on a smaller level.

Tina, Thank you for your email. We would love to have you all as a sponsor of our event. We have not met the goal as of yet and are still in need of $1100 at this time. Please find attached the sponsorship letter we have been circulating.
You may give me a call. I work a "regular" job in addition to my soccer role. My work line is and my cell is. Thank you again, and I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.

PJ said he's feeling like the movie "John Q" fighting the insurance company right now. It's sad that insurance can dictate so much. On a positive note, Michael had a good day....

"Today Michael walked (with max assistance) 1/2 way across the gym floor (with help of bending his legs), ate pizza goldfish, rode a bike and did 2 laps around the floor (he was helping to push the pedals some while riding), lifting his head better, push a football on command and kicked 10 times on command and finished it off with kicking a soccer ball on command. He is making such huge improvements everyday! "

The fact insurance has the ability to control our own health care system and what we are allowed urks me to no end. Shouldn't it be a doctor's/hospital orders that dictate the care we get, not insurance?

I know if I was in that situation and insurance was going to deny care a dr was suggesting, I would go find someone just as un ethical as insurance a lawyer.

bottom line is lawyers are most of the problems....
Joe what do they think the long term is going to be? Is it possible for him to ever get to say 75 to 90 percent or even 100?

Nobody knows. His progress has been amazing. He has already exceeded the doctor's expectations by a long shot. The brain is usually fatally injured by as little as 10 minutes without oxygen so it's a miracle that he is even alive at all.

Think about the time frame.....
Nobody knows exactly how long he was under water. The taekwondo place says it was only a minute or two but I'm guessing that it at least 3-4 minutes, if not longer. They started CPR right away but they didn't get a pulse until he was in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. It took the ambulance 7 min to arrive at the scene. We're easily talking about a minimum of 10-12 minutes without oxygen.

I know a lot of you guys are not believers (I don't want to turn this into a religious debate) but I think his progress is because he has so many people praying for him. I believe Michael is a living miracle.
