Pocono meet sometime?

Don't wanna distract from the Nats, but I just spent the week in the Poconos (Lake Harmony, to be exact) and was thinking it would be a cool place for an eastern SyTy meet. Advantages include:

1. Central to Southeast and central PA, NY, NJ, etc.
2. Plenty of hotels, restaurants, and large parking lots (we could also rent a house...there are lots to rent)
3. Pretty damn scenic, plus winding mountain roads a bonus
4. Race track! We could combine a meet with spectating a race, or getting a group rate at racing school, etc.
5. Activities: indoor water park (year round), lakes, trails, parks with ballfields, etc. Family friendly!

Downsides:
1. Deer - mountain roads sure...but you're asking for trouble if you speed on them. Deer are like gnats around here...everywhere.
2. Weather (you never know)
3. Crowds (weekends)

I'm sure Jeff and Pocono Joe could add their :2cents:. But the family had a great time up there (it was very quiet during the week at Split Rock Lodge area) and there were plenty of cool cars around (SCCA).

Food for thought down the road.

racing at pocono isn't cheap - i bet that not many would pony up the $ for it.

i'd make the trip there for sure. i plan on having another wrenchfest prior to nats...maybe in a weekend or two.

i wont be able to go to a large multiday meet before nats though, unless it involves working on my truck. :2cents:

I'm talking WAY in the future...sometime next year or later.

And not pay to race...but go watch a race; rolex, nascar, club racing, etc. "Lessons" are expensive but maybe we work out some kind of group thing. Just dreamin...

Actually if you're going to do it, the fall is the best time, the trees look so much nicer. Do not worry about the deer as long as you're doing at least 100 MPH, there usually isn't much left of them.

I would definitely be in as long as I am still living up here when it happens. Which I probably will be since houses do not sell out here now. I can help check stuff out if need be or whatever is needed.

impala ss group did a meet in this area.. they did drag racing at my local 1/4 track, probably 30min from the PA border, and did laps around pocono speedway.

but yeah it is local to me, so i'd be there.

Depending on the dates I would be interested in meeting somewhere in PA.

Hmmm...Poconos > Hooters NJ ??

if someone could find a decent road to drive on in the poconos, i'm sure we could arrange some nice pictures and driving the roads up there is a blast.

maybe one of the locals knows of some great twisty roads with smooth pavement.

Yeah I am local but have only been here a few years so I don't know all the good places to go but I will keep a eye out for a park or lake with a nice area for pics. As far as a good stretch of road goes good luck with that. Most of the roads blow unless they were just paved.

I am in total agreement with the other Jeff. Unless the road was re-paved about 2 minutes ago, it is in total disrepair. I would be up for a meeting around here somewhere, and I would possibly be up for racing at Pocono if some people were so inclined. I am involved with the Philly Region SCCA, and might be able to convince some of those guys to attend as well.

Possibly in the fall in lieu of a Hooters NJ meet. I'll look into it more towards the end of summer. Too busy right now.

Yeah, I'd be in for it. As far as roads go, maybe 33 to 80 to 209 to 402 to 6 to Lake Wallenpaupac(sp). Nice photo opp. Lake looks somewhat level with the road. Could stop there for lunch. Continue on to rt.191 and drive through Stroudsburgh and back to rt 80. Could stop along the way somewhere on 402 at a little store that has a decent sized parking lot.(forget the name right now). We would take this ride on our motorcycles. Very scenic, especially in the fall with the leaves changing colors. Just some thoughts...Jim
