Hopefully he will come clean with several guys who are out $$ and/or parts.

Re: Possible 32 spline input shaft GP

Doing some further research it appears to me the place George used to build these is selling them, but referring questions off to george.

The user feedback is for parts that I am 99% sure george would not have been selling (cnc grinder for example).

Based on the BBgear05 and new lebonon ohio location I would guess its this place.

Yeah, I'd agree that it looks like the shop that made the parts for George.

That's what I was thinking. They were offering these on ebay before George left.

Not sure what price range you were looking at for having these made or if you were going to try to improve on the design but it does looks like he is accepting offers.
Maybe he would give a group discount. Just another option.

Took some better pics thought some people might want to see.

You can see the splines themself are holding up great and still slide back into the input shaft no problem. The problem is lack of diameter/strength of material. At least for my application and the abuse I am throwing at it.

For those looking at this in detail, keep in mind I flat towed with engine running truck home 1 mile, so there are some signs of this showing.

Re: Possible 32 spline input shaft GP

So the 32 spline input won't help in this matter?

Looks like you need the same shaft but much stronger at the base so a different material?

Is this the output shaft of the trans then?

32 spline helps (calculations show 1764 ft lbs -vs- 1057 ft lbs).

for my own personal goals with truck I just don't feel it is enough safety for myself. Hence why I have 4340 coming my way that will net me a shaft rated for 4341 ft lbs (per my math).

But I also have billet input and main shafts already in trans, and if I was to pay to have these shafts made would approach 2k. Granted I am doing overkill so everybody doesn't need to feel they need to do the same thing.

I just like to share stuff for others good and bad.

At one time I looked for an output shaft for an 80e and never found an aftermarket beefed up version which I thiough was odd given the do make input and intermidiate.

Are you looking at making yourself an output shaft that is necked down or just a heavy duty 32 spline and t-case input shaft.

Nobody makes a billet output.

I am making my own, 32 spline to take advantage of bigger diameter. It is possible to do a 27 spline 4340 which would still be almost double the strength of a stock 32.

I got a rough quote for a 1 off output billet of $1k. I spent $230 on a chunk of billet to make 1, and will have 15 hrs or so of labor in it and an $80 heat treat.

If we did a GP I could probably bring cost down but I just don't see too many going to my extreme. I could be wrong.

Either way the 700, th400, th350 all use very similar material and the same OD dimensions. So this isn't a 80e issue its an overall issue.

THAT LOOKS JUST NEEDS A LITTLE BRAKE CLEAN.

by the way depending on price i may be interested in one. i may go 80e at some point.

Well if you think you can make some output shaft for a decent price let me know I may be intreased

Has anyone tried calling the company that made them for george.

See post 65

I will be going 80e on my build and do want a x case input shaft. But I buy deals as I find them for my build. I'd rather buy yours than the e bay listing if the price is reasonably close.

Put me down for one depending on price. I know of someone else that maybe interested depending on price.

Re: Possible 32 spline input shaft GP

I am hoping to do better than the ebay price, I can't say the quality of old shafts was bad (although I never have seen on in person) so my only benefit would be price.

Still waiting on quotes, found another place to quote today.

Re: Possible 32 spline input shaft GP

Ok getting more info back from suppliers shops. I have a target price of $350 + shipping to your door.

The ebay/GB shaft was almost $650, don't remember what GB was charging.

This will be 4340 Heat treated to 140-150,000 psi yield strength. For comparision the material the trans output shaft was made from and I would assume similar to our input shaft is 60,000 psi yield. So over double the strength in material.

I will go back and edit first thread on possible names, post if your good on the $350 target range. Probably be a 1 time deal or very least until another group need them. I may make a couple extra just not sure yet.

Another more extreme option is I can get this place to quote making 4340 32 spline output shafts also, just like the one I am custom making for my own truck. 99% won't need this but I can get a quote if say 5 do.

I am rough guessing 5-600 for that piece due to material size and extra machining.
