Re: power windows

It is your window regulators or motors as some call them. Cheap enought to fix, but a bit time consuming for the first timer, but can be done.

Re: power windows

All of the parts stores have the window motors for our trucks. Cost about $25.00 to $30.00 each. The factory used rivets to hold them on but the kit that comes with the motor uses bolts. You may need to grind off the rivets (Some folks that know how to, just use a nail set and a large hammer, but don't unless you know how).

It is better if two folks do this the first time. One to hold the window from falling and the other to replace the motor.

Good luck.

Re: power windows

I did it myself. It was easy. Just block the window up or tape it up so it doesn't crash down. Drill the rivets out. Install new motor. There are very good instructions on how to do it if you can search for them. I think my window motors came with instructions.

Re: power windows

balls I have the same problem... except mine won't go back up all the way unless I wait a while... they useally stop a 1/4 way up which makes it fun to deal with

Re: power windows

Hell mine don't even work... I open the door to pay for food at the driveup! But it's winter so it is not high on the priority list! And I have the spare motor sitting in the garage!

Re: power windows

Plenty of info on doing this is out there. You can see Ed O's wite up how to do it here.

A write up was done on the board here last year.

And lastly, here's the link to my window guide repair "how to" that has the numbers for the door panel clips that you are sure to break when you remove it.

Re: power windows

It was a bad window motor in my truck that did exactly what you are describing.

Just be carefull not to loose a finger tip when messing with the regulator. They call it a scissor type for a reason. A hint for you, all hell breaks loose when you pull the motor off of the regulator if you don't take the necessary precautions. I would hope that part is in the links posted(which I didn't look at before typing this).

Just don't pull up to Wendy's and roll down your window in the rain and you will be all set. :rotf: That was the first time my window was stuck down. I drove it home about 10 min later and the window went up barely.

Does anybody have the pictures from Ed's site? Specifically looking for the one where you bolt the spring so you don't lose any fingers.
