Has anyone tried the gen 2 pt6466 on their sy or ty. Just looking for some feedback on this turbo.
I have a PTE 6765. It was build right before the change was made to the 6766. It was great for around 2k miles. Now it has issues blowing oil. I have sent it back to PTE twice and still have the same issue.
I am going to try to rebuild it myself with a kit that is supposed to have better parts. If that fails. I will be buying a bullseye turbo.
I just hope for you if you buy one that it is of better quality than the one I have.
I don't see myself ever buying another PTE turbo.
Off topic and not to hijack but is there a good brand of turbo to bolt in place of PTE? Anything special for the SYTY's to consider before buying something besides PTE?
I have a similar problem with my PTE6131, it turned out that I had too much oil pressure. My oil line pressure is 32.5-35 at idle. PTE recommends 9-30psi.

Have you cured the issue? I put a restricted fitting for a journal bearing turbo. But it looked a little to restrictive. So I drilled it out slightly. I made no difference.
Also when the truck is warmed up at idle. The oil pressure at under 30 psi. I still get smoke from the tailpipe. So I am thinking oil pressure may not be the issue with my truck. I even replaced the oil drain hose with a 10an along with larger fittings. No bends at all in the drain line.
Im assuming its a BB turbo, and it doesnt have an oil restricter built into the bearing housing?
I think some have fitted the GT35R to the PTE SyTy exhaust housing as well. The bolt on solutions makes the popular.
Yes it's a BB. Mine has the proper restrictor.
Mine only smokes with extend idling, I have not fixed it yet. I think I have a solution this year, I am going to add a filter on the supply line to hopefully drop it a few psi. Have you measured the oil pressure at turbo? Or are you going by the engine oil pressure?
I own six PTE turbos. Currently using a 6266 journal on my race car. A 6262 BB on the EVO 9. 6262 journal on the Conquest. A 6766 journal on another engine.
Doesn't really matter the brand of turbo. If you have too high of oil pressure on the feed AND OR too small of a return line back to the pan. You going to have smoke. Seen many a turbo abused and destroyed from low oil being fed and just as many from too much oil.
Many people get confused on whats actually inside the cartridge. Especially in reference to "seals" Most turbos have piston rings on a reciever groove on the turbine wheel. No rubber or elasto' seals. Both turbine wheel side as well as compressor side with a combination of the thrust bearing and backing plate for the compressor wheel.
Have also used many china turbos. Surprisingly many have held up to a long life. Perhaps oil brand and weight has something to do with any of the turbos living in its hostile environment.
Guys come in the shop always asking turbo questions then repeating "well I read on the net they was no good." Seems to be the trend with everything today. Advice with no real world firsthand experience.
Side note. Still not a fan of ball bearing turbos. Many claim they last longer. Depends on its use and boost level. BOV and how much abuse the compressor side endures. Anything can fail. But I like the less expensive able to rebuild it myself feature of most journal bearing turbos.

I remember High volume oil pumps, are no good.
and also the oil issue, I had some how a extra qt in the system some how. It forced its self out the front cold side seal and I never caught it...untill later. Now my PTE needs a rebuild. Not sure about the cheap parts that are supplied..
