Re: Project Daily Driver - V8 blazer
Did a little more yesterday(late last night)
Put on the serp belt setup only to discover that syty serp belt setups wont work with a TPI. They block any chance of putting an air filter on the throttle body. Plus they hit the TPS sensor. It had been a while since I looked at one so I forgot they sit a little different. I put everything on(power steering and lines, water pump, crank pulley) then when doing the AC bracket found this out.
Then I pulled all that off and put the Vbelt parts back on
The V belt alternator bracket wont work with a TPI lower intake so I had to modify it(cut it up). I have no air compressor here for my cut off wheel so this part was quite a job. It invloved a hacksaw at first which took forever. Then I didnt cut off enough and I was worried it would rub a hole in the coolant line to the throttle body so I had to cut of more. The second time I drilled a bunch of holes and grabbed it with vise grips and bent it back and forth till it broke off. Then ground down the sharpe edges with the grinder stone on my dremel tool. I didnt have any cut off wheels left for my dremel and it was too late to go buy some but that would have made this easier.
With the V belt setup I have no AC bracket so I'll have to switch later on but for money reasons Im going to use the Vbelt for now.
Had to move the engine/transmission back a little to make room for the E-fan. Still barely had room. The studs on the water pump were hitting the fan and I had no bolts that thread size so I had to get the hacksaw out again and cut off the leftover section of the studs. I can't move the engine back any further than this because I dont think it will allow the driveshaft enough room for suspension movement.
Switched to a small cap distributor since I had no luck finding an 85-86 distributor and this small cap was free. Had an MSD coil leftover from the ty. Swapped the pigtail on the harness for a small cap pigtail. Heres where I mounted the coil and MAP
And what it all looks like for now
I installed the VSS from JTR for mechanical speedometers and ECM's needing a VSS input. The speedo wasnt working so I bought a new driven gear for it and went to install it at the same time only to find that the speedo drive gear was also broken. Im ordering a new one of those today.
I also found some factory hard fuel lines from the rail finally. $5($12 with shipping) from ebay used. There hadnt been any on for a week or two and I didnt want to spend $30 on new ones. Yes I'm a cheapass
List of things left to do:
Install fuel lines and run rubber lines to those
install coil power and tach pigtail
hook up power and ground to the e-fan
hook up power and ground to the wiring harness
install VATS module
Install speedo gears
Install and oil pressure sensor and knock sensor
t-stat housing
new, longer TV cable
Take it in for some O2 bungs and install the ECM O2 and my wideband
