Initially I was going to run the GM ECM since I helped Jeff get the one he set up on Jeremy's working. When he was doing the GM ECM, I was on the phone with him looking at diagrams, reading thru the GM ECM code hac I had, etc. to figure out why it wouldn't shift. Took us a while to find the correct code mask to even run the GM ECM we were using. $31 didn't work, $85 didn't work, $OD was for the 60e, and finally $OE worked. Problem is, the hours we both spent on the $31 XDF were lost since we didn't have a very good code hac for $OE. But the TunerCat definition translated rather well to Tunerpro and gave us what was needed to get the it working. The big thing came down to Jeff using the VSS off his Tahoe so the tranny would see the correct MPH. Then it shifted.

I decided to do the PCS Controller on Jeff's suggestion. My tranny core was in good shape so the rebuilt wasn't as much as I had budgeted for. I decided to get the PCS controller since I had money left over from the budget.

It was really easy to hook up. We had the wires ran in 15 mins. After getting the controller installed. Jeff said "This is the controller to go with. Shit.. if we were hooking the GM ECM up, we would still be running wires and trying to track down a VSS from a 95 Tahoe. This is the controller I am gonna run."

The only problem we had with it was it wouldnt' see RPM when we first hooked it up. We had worked on my Ty 10 hours that day so we were pretty tired and went to bed. The next day we got up and had it working within 30 mins. The problem ended up being I uploaded the wrong 4L80e Calibration file the night before. Once I get the one labled 4L80E Base 7.20.2004 w-pcs-harness and used it, everything was working.

Either solution would have worked. I am a tinkerer so normally I would have done the GM ECM. I am gald we did the PCS because it cut down on the install time. We were pretty burned out by the end of the 3rd day. On the 4th day when we got up, once it ran and shifted, I put the dash in and drove it home.

Boy that brings back some memories. Alot of 2 and 3 am nights on that thing! Good thing Paul was 3 hours behind us in Indiana. After going through that, I would recommend using a Aftermarket controller to anyone doing a 80e swap now. In fact jeff was very pleased with the PCS and I will proably update to this controller in the future!
