PROJECT: Ultimate SyTy Garage..FINALLY FINISHED 11/02/04!!

....the project has begun, a new home for the Ty. 8)

Just a few basic facts about the garage....It hasn't been touched since it was built back in 1954, what you see now, was new in '54 (according to the previous owner).

In 1955, he added the second car garage to it, hence the 2 different heights. From the front, the right-side has a height of 8'10" and the left-hand side has a height of 9'10".

Overall size is roughly 20' x 20'.

My goal is to finish the garage out entirely. Run new wiring, new recessed lighting, sheet-rock it, install new cabinetry and lay a 'checker-board' tile floor with Syclone and Typhoon logos printed on the tiles in front of the trucks...along with other things I may think of along the way.

This will be a time consuming process because I work 6-7 days a week and will do it when I can. I will update accordingly with pics and a little detailed summary.

Feel free to add your comments.

Enjoy,
Jimmy

Nice setup and looks like you could make it look like a real go-pro work place with some purchaces from Lowes or something like that... Thats motivation for me to add on to my garage.

Morgan, my goal was to have a N.A.S.T.E. Meet/BBQ at the house here when it is finished, so I am hoping by Spring '04 to be done and will try to coordinate things for that. Also, anybody can come on down to check things out as they progress.

I have plenty of beer/chips, so if ya come, you'll drink/eat. :drinking:

I think someone left a few bodies in the attic and they are falling down.

Nice house man! Congrats!

A few things to keep in mind. I sheetrocked and tiled my garage. I build alot of moisture in there now. I have to run a dehumidifier. I am also gonna throw a gable vent in to try to help move air around.

my roomate has a shop that I have full use of that is quite large and has a lift with cabinets ans such. and the only thing that I would change is the venting there is not a lot of air movement so as soon as you fire up the parts washer or have to spray something with carb cleaner or soemthing like that you have to open the doors and turn on a fan. it would be nice to have an exhaust fan in the roof to pull out shitty air.

I have a couple of magazines aobut finishing a garage i beleive it was circle track or something liket that. took you through thier whole build up. I can try to find it if you would like. it was very cool.

mind posting them here? i've got a new house underway and will be looking for ideas soon. going with a 24'x24'x11' one. since we're building, i had them add extra quad outlets on each wall, 4 overhead lights instead of the standard 1, phone, cable, network.

i wanted a 220v outlet in there, but they wanted an arm and a leg to put one in so i bybassed that for now. wondering what to do on flooring for it now. i was thinking about some rubber flooring found at:

http://www.johnsonite.com/products/comfortech.htm

haven't priced it out yet tho. i know about the floor paints and such, looking for something a little different.

Hey Josh, if you could find that mag it would be great! The more ideas I get the better it should turn out, especially I am still in the 'early' stages.

As for the exhaust fan, I will be sure to look into it, sounds like a good/functional idea. Thanks.

DONT PAINT THE FLOOR

I hate it. its painted gloss white with this stuff thats supposed to be the high falutin stuff but any oil makes it brown and it shows foot prints and my kart stand's tires make marks all the time just form sitting in one spot. if I could do it I would either do no paint or gray just like concrete. then if I wanted to have a painted floor it would be seprate like alittle motor building room or somthing.

and yeah I will dig through my mags and see what issue they were.

i've seen all the floor paints and such. if i were to paint it i would go with the sherwin williams stuff that you can add gripit to for traction. the only problem is that with the amount of time my turd of a truck sits in one spot, i'd be pulling the paint up the next time it moved.

.....and then there was light!

I have to get rid of the extra wiring that was there and it will look neater. Tomorrow is another day.
