Proper SYTY.net Etiquette....

I had posted a WTT ad a few weeks ago. I had someone from the board here answer and it looks like we may be able to make a deal. My question is: Would it be proper "etiquette" to ask about the vehicle to other members in a thread? I would just like to know if anyone knew of the vehicle or had any input- good or bad. I do not, however, want to offend the Ty owner involved if he were to read something about his truck that he may not like. On the other hand, I don't want to trade/buy something and have a surprise pop up after I already had completed the transaction.

I will probably be taking a respected SYTY member and former owner of 2 syty's with me and still feel comfortable with my own eyes when it comes to this stuff. But, you guys all know, that you can never have too much information....

IMO this is a awesome community. I have only owned a Sy now for one year and I really wish I would of asked more questions. Don't get me wrong, I got a descent project but should of researched a little more.

To answer your question, I think it would be appropriate to ask here. That is what the forum is for, besides if you don't have anything to hide what would it matter? I guess there is always a possibility for something negative to happen but isn't that the world we live in? What ever you choose to do, I hope everything works out for you and the seller. It wouldn't hurt to ask the seller his permission first. The answer could give you a good story on if you should buy/trade.

Re: Proper SYTY.net Etiquette....

I would send a private message to ask a question to another member, instead of asking it public.

Re: Proper SYTY.net Etiquette....

Search the VIN# or the posts by the syty member and see if there are any posts about the trucks history, condition, ect. Ask that people PM you if they have info about the truck/owner you might want to know about. G/L

Re: Proper SYTY.net Etiquette....

ask as many questions publicly or privately as you can. If your going from a super reliable Lightning to a typhoon or syclone, you cant ask enough questions. I wish I had asked more. But this community is far better help wise then the svt community and seems far more knowledgable.

I would ask the seller if he minded then go ahead and ask but if he had a problem with it he would have to have a good reason for it...

You can do a search for the ty# on here, vin etc and like mentioned above look up the member and all previous post or threads the person posted in and what about. From this you'll get ot know the person's knowledge of these trucks and weathejr or not it's had issues etc

Look at it as you doing your homework. If you want a fair deal, then do your homework.

It may seem underhanded/untrustworthy to ask about something publicly (as opposed to privately) but if the seller has nothing to hide, then they shouldn't mind. :2cents:

Both of those are good ideas.

A few years back when I was looking at another Camaro from a board, the guy posted pictures and I back tracked on his hosting site to get his main folder he used. I found a bunch of other picutres of the car, which had stuff repainted due to small accidents and whatnot. I linked him his own folder and asked what the story was behind all of it and how come he never came clean in the sale. He dropped the price a few grand more because of what I found. I never bought the car, wish I did now though..

Re: Proper SYTY.net Etiquette....

This is a great thread. It says a lot about the 'character' of the buyer in this instance. He's thoughtful, and respectful.

All good advice in the replies above. Definitely search the seller's profile for posts, and you'll get a good 'understanding' of who the seller is. Any member that posts about his truck, difficulties, problems, etc. should be OK with others 'researching' him with regards to his truck. That's only fair, and a good indication of who your dealing with.

When it comes time to sell my three SyTys, I hope people 'research' me on the board. Good, bad, or indifferent..... If I post it, I have to live with it.

Use the board as another resource in making your decision. I commend you for asking the question. It's a great one.

Regards,
Dave

Very well said Dave, I can speak about my own experience when I was looking years ago. I had ask the owner some questions and some of the answers didn't not seem to add up until I heard fom other people that knew about the truck. They were very helpful and most of all, willing to help. I will be looking for a Typhoon later and because of my last experience on this board I know that all will be OK. I missed out on the blue Ty in San Berdoo because I was sleeping .
