Proud Son of a Hall of Famer

I have just been told that my dad will be inducted into the "Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum Hall of Fame" this year... The few of you who know of my dad would appreciate this. Those of you who dont, well he use to drag race Top Fuel Dragster back in the 60's and early 70's.. He is recognised as one of NHRA's top 50 drag racers of all time and was a pioneer of the sport. The award ceremony will be held at Fomoso Raceway in Bakersfield, California on the weekend of October 16-18. I would just like to thank him for being a big part of my life and growing up with this kind of background gave me the inspiration to do what I love to do. All I have ever thought about for as long as I can remember was drag racing. I hope that he is as proud of me as I am of him.

He is the reason why I do what I do. I may not be racing american muscle. But Drag racing is Drag racing.. And I love what I do.

My sister and I will be accepting the award in honor of my dad since he will not be able to attend the event due to traveling arrangements...

My dad has not been in good health as of late. But I am not saying that he is on his death bed.. But as a son, I hope that he gets the chance to cement his name in the actual NHRA Hall of Fame and in a History that we all strive for in the Don Garlits Museum in Florida before he leaves us. Please help with the induction and send your emails to induct him into the Hall of Fame to garlits@mfi.net

Here are a couple links that describe just who my dad was to all racers and people that love the sport.

Don,

Congratulations to your dad ! Even out here on the east coast we knew that name well. When I was a teenager I toured the east coast with Jungle Jim Liberman back in the late 60's and early 70's. He had plenty of stories about all the racers from out West, and your dad was one of his favorites. I drove front motored dragsters in the early days of my career and they were without a doubt the most fun I ever had in almost 20 years of driving. I'm sure your dad's memories are priceless.

thanks,

Thanks for the kind words everyone... Its a great feeling to know that people from all around still remember..

I will fix those links as soon as I get to the shop.

Re: Proud Son of a Hall of Famer

Ok All of the links work.. The first one is actually an interview that is pretty darn RARE.. Since my dad retired in 1972, he had never given an interview of any kind. Phil Burges was lucky enough to be the only one to do so.

Re: Proud Son of a Hall of Famer

Yeah I had to bid on the model... I remember as a kid having a ton of those kits. And being a kid all I did was make Hot rods out of other cars with the dragster parts.... Man was that dumb..
