The easiest way to drill out the spot rails is to get a special drill bit, makes the job fast and easy.
Id just either find a clean rust free bed and remove the good rails and use them to fix yours. I had the same problem on mt GT's bed, the rest of the bed is clean, but the cross supports and the rear panel are rusted out bad, but not quite as bad as yours, and my truck spent its whole life in Boston Mass, but was only driven the first couple of years in the winter.
I have searched and searched for a clean bed here in Tx for the last 3 years, and when i do find one they want an arm and a leg for it, so im gonna get one that is clean underneath and all beat to hell on the top and use it for parts.
Although i do like the idea of a fiberglass bed, and would love to know what it weights.
