question on air box

i got my ty about 3 weeks ago, i took the air box out yesterday and noticed about 3, 2inch holes drilled into the air box that look like it would get more air to the engine. i was just wondering if this was a mod done or if the guy that had my car before was just an idiot.

I've heard of people opening up the front of the stock airbox, but look at the piece right in front of where it mounts. There's a little hole the same size as the airbox's, and a little duct leading down to the outside layer of that support, with another hole that size. To get much more air going in without sucking a bunch of hot air, I'd think you'd need to mod the support in front of the airbox too...

ya there is a metal brace that holds the air box on that stops most of those holes from getting any air. the holes that are drilled in it dont look factory. thats why i asked. if it is sucking in hot air do you guys think thats a bad thing??

I don't think anyone has really given a definitive answer to that debate. The open cone on the crossover tube gives you more air, but it's warmer. The stock airbox is more restrictive but shields it from the heat some. Try it and see. I honestly don't think you're letting in too much more air at all, much less hotter air. Personally I wouldn't worry about it, or scrap the whole thing and go to a real cold air kit...
