Question on intercooler pumps ...

I had an aftermarket intercooler pump on my Ty, and it decided to start leaking everywhere, so I ordered a replacement. Not knowing the brand of the old one I had to just get what seemed to be the best... I ordered a Johnson CM30P7-1 from Auto Performance Engineering.

It seems to be working, but it is making the most horrific and LOUD noise I have ever heard. It is so loud I can hear INSIDE the cabin even at highway speeds... it is intolerable. My old pump was completely silent.

Is it defective, or are these particular pumps supposed to be this obnoxiously loud??? I emailed Auto Performance Engineering about a week ago with questions, but have gotten no response.

My ass. Look at it.
See if you can find some sheet rubber RV service centers should have some as they use it for roofing on travel trailers.

Take the rubber and wrap your pump with it, should quiet it up considerably! :D

I dunno about the loudness of the johnsons, I have have a shurflo and it is fairly quiet, after wrapping it.

HTH! :)

I've heard alot of pumps that are larger than the Johnson pump you have start screaming after mabey 3 years min. from the bearing going out but never heard one do that from that start.

It's deffentely not normal.

The Johnson is one of the better pumps out there. I've flowed several
I'ved used a couple of the Johnson pumps. They might be slightly noisier than stock but no that bad.

You have air in the system causing it to cavitate which is very noisy. It takes some work to get out all the air. I seriously doubt the pump is bad.
Been there done that

Do you have rubber lines or the stock steel?

I agree with SY769, when I put my shurflo on, it was loud in the truck also. I thank my lucky stars I was feeling creative that day cause I used clear vinyl tubing for the coolant just for looks. As it turns out, "looks" are everything. If I wouldnt have used that I probably would tossed it and got another one but I could see that the coolant was bearly circulating. I spent a good 30-45 minutes getting it perfect.
No noise after that.
