Question to the guys making there own headers

Guess what.....

Yep my cast manifold is cracked on the Turbo side....

Soo a job for the new year is to make a set of stainless headers

I will be making up some equal length shorties with my 316L Mandrel bent stock and Tig welding the sucker up......(I run a UK based exhaust component shop so most of the bits needed are on me shelf)

The Manifolds are still on the truck and I dont expect to be removing them for a little while yet.

So I can get the correct parts in and have some components custom laser cut (Flanges and so on)

Just a few questions you could answer please

What is the part number for the Copper header Gaskets that everyone uses?

Is there a copper Turbo flange gasket available

What size Primary tubes do you guys use?

What length of Primary tube do you use (if your using equal length style headers)

Any answers will be a great help

Cheers

Ive got two of them gaskets already... and no I went and built a 2.5" Down pipe / Full Exhaust system. Its good enough for a stock turbo engine

Duplicate....Well I'll see how I get on first

I dont expect to start this until Feb/March.....or if the Iron manifold falls to bits before...

Re: Question to the guys making there own headers

The original style (ATR) was 1 1/2" primary. The RPM headers use a 1 5/8" primary, which causes some difficulty in fitting them around the steering and such. I think that unless you have pretty heavily ported heads, 1 1/2" is plenty sufficient for primaries.

Thanks for that, Yep my heads are stock

Thats good news... as I have plenty of 90 & 45 Degree 1.5" bends.

Ive found a few pictures of other headers on the site so I will work out the best setup I can manage

Re: Question to the guys making there own headers

The Crossover from drivers side to the turbo manifold

Im thinking of using 2" to keep the exhaust speed high and also fitting a small 150mm internaly braded Flexi allow for expansion of the stainless
