I was joking about the 5" downpipe I made for my Camaro. It's the start from RJC like
you listed... It's just a monster. :)

I Can help you with that kind of swap... on one condition.. You have to run a 5" downpipe LOL!

All joking aside.... If you decide to go that way I could guide you through it or help get it done.

Several Hybrids have been through my place.
87 Mustang LX 3.8L
86 Camaro (mine) 3.8L
89 Camaro 3.8L
77 Buick Skyhawk (current customer project)

It's a heck of a decision though.... It'd be fun!

Didn't you also have a maxima with a gn motor is it also?

WTF paul whats up with the TY...

Not running a 5" DP.. are you crazy... I have a 3" Jeff made for me with the Flapper built into the flange. just saying you could run one if you so wanted :-b.

I will have pictures of my progress soon once I get the housing and the DP back from being coated.

Nope....

It's the stock Maxima engine in it with 224,000 orginal miles. (3.0L V6)

I put a GN style turbo on it (TA49). Made all the pipeing ect. Used a stock GN intercooler and put it up front with differerent inlet/outlets. Pocket Romulator for tuning with Live Edit (basic Nissan hack program for 300z's)

With the old downpipe and tune it went 13.40@107mph. I get 22mpg in town and 28mpg on the highway. Fun daily driver. :)

Re: race engine

Depending on what you're looking to do, the 4.3L versus the 3.8 is an interesting debate. Here's my objective take on it:

Heads-Vortecs availible for the 4.3L, modern chambers good flow characteristics and larger valves when compared to the stocker Buick heads. Otherwise you're running ported stockers or GN1Rs. Brodix -8 and -10 heads are availible for the 4.3L if you're lookin for crazy power. Price/$ winner:4.3L

Displacement-Cubes do help. Winner:4.3L

Intakes-Getting a good port fuel injection intake for a 4.3L is a PITA, short of getting a rare/expensive Sy/Ty intake or converting something. Winner:3.8L

Rods-4.3L rods are nowhere near as nicely engineered as buick rods. If you look at them, you can tell that the Buicks are quality. Expect to buy some H-beams for making a good bit of power with a 4.3L reliably, and the SBC rods do not work. Winner:3.8L

Pistons:4.3Ls use SBC pistons and rings, perhaps the easiest item to get and a shelf item none the less. The Buick stuff is a shelf item, but at the same time nowhere near the selection of the Chevies. Winner:4.3L

Engine Management:the 4.3L uses a Speed Density system with probably one of the best documented factory ECUs out there. The Buicks have a huge aftermarket of chips, and a 1227749 box from the Syclones/Typhhons will retrofit into the 3.8L Buicks. Winner:push.

Cam:A 4.3L is a roller motor stock, the Buick 3.8L needs expensive retrofit parts and are known for having some issues with cams and eating the #3 exhaust lobe. Winner:4.3L.

In the end, I think that both motors would be fairly similar cost if you're doing a built short block, but if you have cheap machine shop time to do a modified or custom intake the 4.3L would come out on top.

same here.. it would still be a turbo v6 too.. but i'd like to get my syclone done within a year or two, swapping a 3.8 would put me back quite a bit.

You could put your PAS sign on the front and people would think it was a proto type :rotf:

hmmm, turbo 3.8 in a syclone... hmmmm

oh and DONT NOT do a 4.3 in a gn my 3.8 went 11.2 with a stock motor just bolt ons. i can get 10s if i push it harder. just get a 109 block and a gridle and it will handle 9s without a problem.

Re: race engine

If your going to spend the money. Just call TA Performance and order one of there 3.8 aluminum blocks and some TA heads or gn1's. It would cost about as much in the long run and nobody would give you crap at the Buick events just drool over your block.

Re: race engine

The TA block is nice... It's about 3800.00 and needs ALOT of final machiene work. I doubt you'll spend near that on a budget stock (109) block. If your looking to make big buick V6 power there's no doubt that'd be a great choice. And it weighs 80lbs DOH!
I think I'll still find a stage 2 block for next year on the Camaro. And a fresh set of ported GN1 heads.
I'll still have 10,000 in the stage 2 build as a rough estimate. That's just the long block!

Re: race engine

i a have a way to get my hands on a stage 2 block all it needs is a eagle crank $700 and a cam of your making $300 or so. gn1s and intake and all just needs to be put together. i can get it pretty cheap there is probably 10+k in it. in case anyone wanted it. it is at billy andersons in md right now he checked it out and was going to put it together for a friend but he just went and bought another stage2 car and may be picking up another.

btw champion is coming out with a new block for the 3.8 which is going to be much much better then the ta block.

Re: race engine

Send me a e-mail on the Stage block. If it's not sleeved and beat to death I'd be interested in it. I'm going hyd. roller with the cam in that block. Solid may make a few extra hp. but i'll take the ease of setting lash one time for this car.
I was told to wait till Champion came out with thier iron block but It may be awhile.
Send me a e-mail with price on the block when you can!
Thanks,
Scott~
