.........and lost :rotf:

I just so happened to meet up with the owner of this tbss while on my way home from work:http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=47518&highlight=tbss I went to get a cup of coffee and he just happened to be there. Really cool guy. We have met before. On his way out I followed him and we were about to go from a roll when all of a sudden the light in front of us went red  I had him out of the hole but he quickly caught up and won by about 2 car lengths. Im not even sure if he launched it :( . It sounded soooo bad ass!!!! He has heads/cam, intake, header back exhaust, built tranny w/ conv., almost finished tuning it. I wish I had cranked the boost up to 18lbs. (at 14 right now) but I dont think it would have made that big of a difference in the outcome :dunno: All in all it was an awesome race. That truck moves out!

Yea the problem is they got it all the way to 6400-6500 rpm and we will be dead by that time. That truck will torque right up to 140mph which is pretty hard for our trucks to do. That is pretty funny that you ran into him so quickly but cool. I have never got to meet him @ the shop we always had the truck there but not him.

Cool.

Sell Out
Re: Raced a TBSS!!

Stock to Stock - a Ty should win. 100% stock - I was running 14.5 in my SS at the Nats last year.

Heat soak on the SS is a bitch. 2wd is about 3/10s faster than AWD.

Stock for Stock out of the whole, my Ty pulls on my buddy's SS.

But on the highway from a 60mph roll, I jump him a couple trucks and he quickly reels me in for the pass.

Re: Raced a TBSS!!

I just bought an '06 TBSS 2wd last Friday. It is bone stock. My Ty has an Ultimate chip, Kenne Bell intake, ATR aux. intercooler and muffler and 160 thermostat. So it is not "heavily" modded. I have not run them side-by-side yet, but I swear seat-of-the-pants the Ty feels stronger untill about 100mph. Out of the hole is a no brainer. I still wish they would have went the twin turbo route with the SS, but damn that LS2 is strong. I think it says alot about our trucks that 15 years later they still basically match factory performance vehicles. That said, I'll sell the SS before my Ty. As one bewildered un-knowing rice grinder driver once said to me, "that must be the Jimmy from Hell"!!!!

Sell the typhoon and install twins on the TBSS that will be the fast truck. The LS2 with good Forged parts will take more abuse than our trucks will. The TBSS has a better suspension set-up too. We just are working on a TBSS 2wd with headers, catback, install vigilante converter in it today and not sure if were dynoing it or not. The truck is from Virgina or SC forget.

They are the nicest and install Heads and cam bad ass. I like it better than my ty but i can afford one with all the money in the ty.

lol, that's funny. My buddy likes my Ty better then his SS and would love to trade me.

About how many hours does it take to do the heads and cam on that thing. Price wise would would that install cost

Re: Raced a TBSS!!

personal preference, I love turbos but the TBSS is a far superior vehicle overall than the Typhoon (10yr newer design) inside and out, handling, braking, etc. But I would gladly take a Turbo LS2 over an NA LS2 anyday, but they can't have a TB faster than a C6 lol...

Ralphy, school them on how little it takes to run 12.5's in a TBSS.. basically CAI/Tune, Clutch fan delete (install LS1 E-Fans), UD pulley and a 9.5"Vig and you're there... when I was stock I ran mid 13's from 13.4-13.8 given the temp/DA...

Re: Raced a TBSS!!

then how come it says 14.4@95 under he pic??? I dont think anyone here is doubting the performance of the tbss. Besides it better be superior for the price and age. I love the tbss but nowhere near as much as the ty. and by the way I believe it was nolan who proved that a 20g turbo and nothing else put a bone stock ty at 12.02

Re: Raced a TBSS!!

Thanks Jason. It was indeed a good run. I was out again this past weekend on Sat night but didn't see you. I'll be out again this weekend. We got the tune richened up a bit to the tune of 430 TQ to the wheels. The idle is MUCH smoother, you'll hear the difference immediately. It still screams like a raped ape up top but that's standard for Corsa exhausts.

You said it was two trucks but I thought it was closer than that. I'll take your word for it. You also said you weren't sure if I launched. All I did was brake tq it up to 1300 RPM then let it fly. I spun a bit (yes all four) out of the hole. Last thing I needed against a much smaller truck that doesn't have gargantuan 20 inch boat anchors on the axles.... Anything higher than 1500 RPM and they'll break loose (street tires). It was indeed a fun run, thanks for the race. We'll do it again, this time have your boost cranked up to 18 PSI....

Re: Raced a TBSS!!

Hi J,
14.5 @ 95 is a bone stock TBSS average. Tony's run 12.5 in his 2WD with the mods he mentioned (fans, pulleys, CAI, tune) and DR's. Very basic stuff.

Re: Raced a TBSS!!

sounds great, I didnt get out until late. I was extremely impressed (as was everyone else). I cranked to boost to 18 the other day and I keep blowing of the ic pipes, so im working on that now. IDK if the tranny will hold up to another race but what the hell :dunno: Talk to you soon

Re: Raced a TBSS!!

I actually put one of my stock Ty's up against my stock SS, and without boosting at all I walked all over the SS (up to 50 then backed off) by several car lengths. my buddy was going Ballistic over the nextel! I rarely race or run my stuff hard, so he had no clue what was in store.

Also, I think the SS is very fast, but after driving my Ty for a week, and getting back in the SS, The TBSS felt slow! The Ty also gets more thumbs up and comments
