Ran 11.597

This truck absolutely lives on cold air. Even with meth having a cold intake makes a huge difference with this truck. One 11.99 @ 114 pass, all others in the 12.0 range. Temps in the 60s with a lot of wind. Wind was on the nose to start then slowly switched to from the left. Wind doesn't seem to affect the truck much at all. Loves that cold air though.

Crappy 60' 1.847. If I had better tires, mine are getting worn, and could cut that to 1.6 something I'd be well into the 11s at maybe 118? (118 is my best top end) Boost starts at 16 and slowly ramps up to just under 20 with about a 4.5# launch. IATs in the 70s crazy. How quick can you go on "only" 20# of boost?

DM attached if ya want to look. The low launch RPM is an attempt to keep from spinning the tires.

Are your tracks open year-round? I love going on the last day, usually mid-november.

c'mon 11.80

on street tires, i found i could 60ft better with them spinning. anything over 4# and i would spin, but launching at 7# netted lower 60ft

I know fast is different these days, but anything under 12 that has a full interior and a/c...and I'm a fan. good job.

Re: Ran 11.99

Mildly ported Vortecs, Crane roller 1.5 rockers, Comp cam, (I can give you the specs if you want.) 60# injs, Eric's chip, Alkycontrol, 2800 stall, built trans. Hybrid turbo. (Bigger of the three Mitsu ex housings-ported, 11 blade wheel, 60-1 compressor.) 3" DP all the way back. Stock ex manifolds and x-over. Simple manual boost control. Magnecor plug wires. It's hard to over emphasize the importance of good wires. These wires transformed this truck. So, to me, really good wires are an absolute must.

Like I said it's the cold air. A few weeks ago when it 90* I was literally 0.8 slower. Just shy of 13.0. Exactly why it makes such a huge difference I haven't quite figured out. Sure on the face of it it makes sense but since I can pull the IATs down to below 100 with the meth even on a hot day I'm thinking there is more to it. Like actual turbo efficiency. Also air cleaner location might be part of it. I sits right where the bat was. Maybe I can work on a housing this winter.

The track cooled a lot that evening. I was spinning the tires enough to fishtail on the launch. Keeps me awake... I'll try a higher RPM launch again. Maybe I can find a sweet spot.

Thanks for your comments.

Re: Ran 11.99

Cool again at the track yesterday. Added 2* of timing and upped my launch RPM a hun. Ran best 11.79 flat. (91 octane with the meth BTW) MPH is not quite there though. Still 115 ish. I'm gonna add timing in small increments, literally a degree at a time. I'd like to break 118 (my record) and maybe an 11.60. Only a few weeks left in the season. Haven't touched boost, still tops out at 19#. Tune in next week.

Re: Ran 11.700

Not nearly as cool, actually nice with no wind. Upped the timing, now 20.4 still with -0- knock. Boost still at 19#, 91 octane with meth. Ran a best of 11.700 @ 116.42. Launch at 2450 and 4.5# 60' 1.721, 660' 7.467

Nice, whats your best ever time in the truck? Is this still on crappy tires? If so youve still got a little more left id say on the current tuning setup..

Re: Ran 11.700

I ran 11.573 back in Jan 2015. May have been a fluke. Truck is much more consistent now. Yes, still on crappy tires although it was hooking fairly good last night. Only a few nights of racing left so I might postpone tires until next year. Why buy tires only to have it sit in the garage for 3 months.

The truck, to me anyway, is very strong at the top end. 1.936 1000 - 1320. I might put in another degree of timing and see what happens. But again at what point do not-so-good things begin to happen? I'm planing to pull the pan and check the bearings this winter although last time I cut the filter it was clean. (Dave P. has already told me the filter is not necessitate an accurate check. Only in looking at the bearings are we 100% sure.) Empirical evidence is the final judge. (Word of the day - empirical )

What I really need to work on is my launch. Everything is in the launch with these things.

Great job as usually. I wish I had as much fun racing my truck as you do.

Re: Ran 11.700

At this point id add boost over timing but thats just my opinion and everyones is different.
Get another cool night and work on your 60' and i bet you could beat your best with either one more psi or degree more timing.
Good luck and still pretty fast for what it is whatever you do

Re: Ran 11.700

Thanks guys! This all started a while back when I discovered that my upper IC was loosing water into the motor. Rare I imagine but I can't be alone here. Anyway, I had always thought that I was just having trouble getting all the air out. Well after buying another here I haven't lost a drop and this thing has settled down and finally begun to respond to tuning changes like I would expect. What's is really setting things apart is -0- knock. I used to struggle with this. One run I'd have spark retard, the next something different without changing anything. Now after time trials are over I turn the computer off. (I really should keep logging though, just in case something does happen.)

And Mike, are you gonna run that monster you're building? That's an amazing build. You're part a rather small club that has done a build like that. I hope it turn out well for you.

Re: Ran 11.597

Last night I clicked off an 11.597 plus 3 in the 11.60's The only thing I changes was I upped my launch RPM a bit, about a hun to 2475 which put the launch boost at about 7.5. It did spin at the line but my 60' went down to 1.707. I did tweak the boost controller a bit (it's only a manual) which rampped the boost up quicker but still left it at 19#. It's amazing to me how well this thing is running. All still with -0- knock. It was cool at the track as usual, but 0 wind this time. Humidity was probably up because we have weather coming in tonight. I doubt it would run this well in any heat. I can tell you that running this quick is more fun that the 13s.
