Re: Rear ABS Disc Swap

i wrecked my 95' s-10 4x4 2x's due to that bullshit abs unit. strait to the floor both times, makes me so angry just thinking of it. after the truck was sold, i got their letter in the mail about the damn ABS. i showed it to my dad and told him "See, it was not my fault, asshole." I cant believe they even had those things in these trucks or any other for that matter. Damn GM

Re: Rear ABS Disc Swap

Just glad to do my part. It is Really easy. If you had all the parts & all the bolts come out good I could do it 1.5 hours.

:D good to know it's nothing that takes all day & I'll be studying that info as I intend on doing this swap/conversion in the near future ;)

Re: Rear ABS Disc Swap

If you are interested in doing a rear disc swap, adn can't find the parts, i can sometimes find the 11.5 inch rotor, s10 rear disc setups.

The f-body camaro like i have and what gumby ty has, uses the 12 inch rotor, mine came on the truck so i left it on, but i can't imagine that .5 inch would make a difference.

if you aren't to particular on that, i can get you all the parts needed for the 11.5 inch rear brake system for a pretty fair price i'm sure. lemme know if this is something you are interested in and i will start watching for those rear disc trucks when they come in.

your rears would be bigger than your fronts LOL but who cares, it still looks good.

btw i did some cleanup on mine after i got the truck home, and disassembled the whole thing, checked out the rear end and had it back together in no time. Not to mention i had never even messed with anything like that before, it's really a snap.

Re: Rear ABS Disc Swap

Yes u can keep the abs. It wont know the difference between drum or disc. I put rear disc on my 93 s10 and it stopped so much faster. Its a direct swap. Just take the lines off at the brake hose from the donor car then u dont have to make new ones. And will have to use a small washer to shim the caliper bracket from the axle. Other wise the rotor will rub the bracket. Atleast it did on mine. I think the housing r slightly different on older trucks.

what exactly did you use for rear sensors? and what was the disc from, s10 or camaro? i had thought that 93-94 ish and up systems, the rear sensor feed was controlled by the drac unit, in all gm (and maybe others) vehicles. this being the case that our trucks use rear sensors mounted onto the rearend housing, one would have to either make the sensors from the drum system work with the disc of find something comparable from i dunno, i was thinking maybe 91-92 z28 with the 1LE option?

i assume those cars had an abs system.

please, do tell, if no one else, i am interested in knowing this!

the 91-92 abs units, i am told, are the superior systems, they changed the design in 93+ and i'm also told they are an accident waiting to happen.

Re: Rear ABS Disc Swap

I appreciate the offer on looking out for the parts for me  but I have unlimited access to all the 2nd gen S10s I could ever imagine .... not too pricey but not cheap cheap ;).

I figured on doing just a plain jane rear disc swap from a 2nd gen S10 to the SoGT & maybe a proportioning valve (new replacement or upgrade?). I mean I don't have the intent to really build this thing into anything special performance wise .... jus' a good reliable fun daily driver & jus' a few minor motor/exhaust mods;)
