rear vibration

Hey guys, I was watching my baby on the emissions dyno @ 15mph the rear started to jive around a bit and at 25 it was pretty stupid. I do have a vibration that seems to hit pretty hard at about 55ish and really get into it at around 70 tapering back down (not off) over 80.

I'm thinking driveshaft since I do offroad as often as I can afford.

Any ideas? Shocks are some crappy ranchos I'm wanting to warranty upgrade to billsteins when the $$ comes. The vibration was present through a series of differently tested shocks and tire combinations.

I have been looking for a shop[ that can balance the driveshaft near me (willis, tx) with no success.

Re: rear vibration

I have the same vibration that starts at 55 then tapers off at about 80. I'm gonna start to try to diagnose it soon enough, I'll keep you posted and you do the same.

Re: rear vibration

If it is not the drive shaft, have the wheels checked for balance. How old are your tires? Sometimes tires get bumps in the sidewall. Mostly low profile tires from pot holes. The potholes destroy the sidewall of the tire causing bumps and vibration at higher speed. Also. Depending on how aggressive you off road. Off-roading can also causes this problem. The weights on the wheel come off.

Re: rear vibration

Getting my tires rebalanced right now as we speak just for shits, I think it's a driveshaft issue to be honest with you.

Re: rear vibration

I love how they say life time balance and then to find out my road force balance will cost me $60.00 at discount tire. I had a balance issue when I got tires from them and they had to be road forced. Hmm I bet ya I'm gonna ride outta here after the plain balance and will get vibration. I'll be livid and have to come back, after how many tires I've balanced as a tech! But then Wtf do I know? Right! I'll keep you updated.

Re: rear vibration

The techs down here in the south are just barely competent enough to breathe. I have been to about 20 Houston based Discount tires and every time I make sure to see if they will do my "free lifetime balancing" on the road force machine everyone has collecting dust.

Not one time has someone claimed they knew how to use it.

My rears just swap back and forth from the powertrax no-slip and wear completely evenly.

Re: rear vibration

Balanced vibration still there... Driveshaft is now suspect in the front. I had it rebuilt 3years ago so I think it's gonna be time for a new one. I'll keep you informed, Im gonna try to find a front driveshaft put of a bravada just for shits.

Re: rear vibration

So your vibration is from the front tires? That sucks. I scored a NOS delco front shaft with ujoints on ebay for 100 about a year ago on a trip through michigan.

Worst trip ever to metal.

...edit: this guy's truck is not a SyTy. So I removed my input.

Re: rear vibration

I basically have everything but powertrain of a syty. I love it like one though which is why I am here. Everyone here really loves their trucks and wants them to be the best they can be.

Best quality people are right here at syty.net.

Mines in the sig.

Code what?
You should be able to inspect the ujoints yourself. Closest driveline I'd use close to Willis would be Napa in Conroe.
