Rear window defroster

Ok, I used the search w/o luck. We had our 1st snow last Wednesday and i found out my rear defroster does not work. My dash switch lights up and goes off with the timer. I looked at my owners manual to check what fuse I need to check. It listed other things that are working on the same fuse/circuit. I looked but did not test the wires going to the defroster itself. Is this a common problem? Where should I start? I need to use this or I will not see anything out of the rear.

The wire that connects to the glass defroster metal might have come brittle and/or disconnected. Mine completely fell off and i haven't bother to fix it. I would check that connection first.

I did a quickie look when I washed it last and it looks like the wires for the defroster run on both sides of through the tailgate window shocks? I will check it out.

yea. there is a simple spade connector on one end, and then its connected directly to the window. The wire corrodes there, well mine did, and i've seen others that way too (maybe a PA thing-heh).

My ass. Look at it.
Mine corroded at the spades and at the solder points on the glass...I simply resoldered the connections and everything was groovy again. :)

Thanks for the input guys I will take a closer look. I have a new solder kit I have been dying to try.
