removing my engine for block replacement and rebuild

Hey all,

It's finally time to remove my engine and get it ripped apart after severe rod failure taking out a chunk out of the block and...

I will be posting pics later tonight and stuff, but I have one question before I continue: I have removed the engine mount bolts and the 4 bellhousing to engine bolts, plus all of the other accessories and stuff in the way to take the engine out. Is there any other major connections / bolts that I need to take out to complete the removal? I read somewhere about torque convertor bolts also what about the flywheel? I am removing the engine only and not the tranny, have a hoist and have removed most of the front clip and inner fender wells. Suggestions at this point?

Thanks
Chris

Re: removing my engine for block replacement and rebuild

Well, so far I have the engine free of the front side, but it seems to not want to move forward, am I missing something? It appears that the tranny seems to be free of the motor, but is there anything that prevents it from moving forward? I am finished for the day as it began raining again - hate the rain.

Pics to come soon...

Should be 6 tranny to engine bolts.... 3 bolts that hold the flexplate to torque convertor also....

Re: removing my engine for block replacement and rebuild

Got the ground cables from the heads to the frame, and actually just finished reading all of your thread about your truck Quickstop. Congrats about getting it running again! I am hoping to be able to build mine and have it running again soon. Nice job on the complete resto!.

As for the tranny bolts, I think that I forgot the two topmost bolts for the tranny to bellhousing and will look into that tomorrow. I actually saw this on one of the pics in your rebuild thread that had some good pics of where the topmost bolts are located with the tranny. Is there a way to remove them without lifting the body? I could do yje body lift thing, but afraid it may open up another can of worms.

Also is there a pic of the location of the three bolts between the flex plate and tc? I am not quite sure which way to go in that direction...

thanks

Re: removing my engine for block replacement and rebuild

IIRC there are two more bolts on the trans that are at the very top. tough to get at.

Take off the lower cover on the bell housing. You will see the bolts that hold the torque converter to the flywheel. there are three bolts, i think 15mm, that thread from the trans side toward the engine. use a flywheel holding tool to help break them loose.
