Replace flexible steering coupler?

VA Typhoon

I am preparing to replace the steering box on my 93 Typhoon with a 2001 ZQ8 fast ratio steering box I purchased from spooldup.
My question is, can the flexible coupler (a circular disk held in place by 4 bolts) between the steering box and the steering shaft be easily replaced?
My local Carquest store lists two sizes for the disk, 3 3/16" and 2 5/8", which one fits the Typhoon? They must special order the 2 5/8" disk
Thanks to anyone who can answer my questions.

Re: Replacement of flexible steering coupler?

take a tape measure and measure it to be sure. some people on the board make complete steering shafts that replace the coupler with a universal joint.

To make the most of your new box, I would also reccomend upgrading to a u-joint system, like this: http://forums.s-series.org/viewtopic.php?t=44878 . This is for a 2nd-gen truck, but farther down there is some explaniation for the first-gens (like SyTys). good luck with the new box!

The above appears to be the best solution for me, I will be giving John a call.

Thanks to all who answered my inquiry!
