Replacing Injectors

I'v got everything off, somehow??? anyway, i have two probs. ONE, I want to lift the fuel rail but can't because the F'n AFPR is stuck...The fuel line that goes into the AFPR on the bottom is so damn tight i can't get it. Even with all the crap out i can barely get a wrench in there, let alone move it. Don't ask me how i got the AFPR in, Richard Lee and i did it, but he did most of it. I think it is 16mm right? Any ideas? Also, once i get that damn thing out, how do i remove the injectors...I've been told to be very careful of the O rings, but do they slide out, twist, what? Basically i can't do a damn thing untill i get the nut loose under the AFPR, any advice? It is tight as hell and the location sucks wang!

Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure it's 5/8", but 16mm oughta work. It is a real b*tch to get at - you might have to remove other stuff to get some swing room.

As far as the o-rings on the injectors go, you just pull the injector up out of the intake. Straight up, might have to wiggle them. Just make sure the o-ring comes out with it. If not, fish it out with a small screwdriver. The problem people are warning you about is if you leave an o-ring in there, and then put a new injector on - with an o-ring on it - it's not going to seal and you may bend stuff trying to torque the fuel rail down with that injector sitting too high.

Thanks for advice guys...

Mike,

Nope on your question...10lbs of boost STILL! I'll come back to that...I figure i need to replace the injectors, so while i'm at it i'll replace the vacuum lines as well, which MAY be related, but i don't think so...I'll do the IC lines too! I'll let ya know about the progress...but I've almost given up on the 10lbs of boost prob. I'll do the test light from the cap idea, but I can't do it now obviously.

Thanks again!

why don't you just take the fpr off the fuel rail. that way you don't need to disconnect the line. alot easier to get at.

What kinda testing did you do that made you believe the injectors were at fault? Just curious as to what people were trying. I don't like just buying parts and swapping stuff. Yeah, just take the allen head bolts off the fuel rail. Use the EXACT sized allen wrench.

Here is my prob. The fuel rail has 4 nuts right? all removed! the fuel line going into it is removed...the AFPR is now loose and should slide off with the the rail...Basically the only thing holding it on is the connection to the injectors...HOW f'n hard to I have to pull to get the rail off the injectors. I mean this is rediculas...I don't want to break anything, so am i missing something? I'v checked all around it and not one thing is holding it down. It is very loose, but i can't pull it up because the injectors are holding it into place. Do i just pull REAL hard?

As long as you're sure everything is loose, I'd pry with a big screwdriver near the injectors and see if it pops loose (pry against something that won't break). If you hover over it and pull up real hard, your liable to hurt yourself

UPDATE: Thanks a million guys...I got the fuel rail and injectors out...Turns out I just need to do some pulling pretty hard. My first time at this thing and didn't want to break anything so i was cautious...The prying thing worked great...I got one and after that i saw that i just need to pull...THANKS AGAIN...now i got another question before i get going on the next step...I'm going to rerout the IC lines and replace the vacuum hoses...What should i do first? I figure it doesn't matter, but in terms of ease what would you guys suggest?

Can't help you with either of those. Still got stock vacuum lines and IC lines. Check the archives....

Glad to hear you got the fuel rail off.
