GMC parts is closed today. So, I need some help from you SyTyr's. I want to order my gears ASAP. What size is the ring gear in the front carrier, 7.625 o 7.25? I forgot. If it's 7.25, do any of you know who sells aftermarket: Richmond gears, etc??? Any brand would be better than GMC right now. Stopped by GM parts this week, and they want $450 for the ring and pinion. I ordered the spider gears. They were about $200 from GM. I'm lOOking thru Summit catalog, but I don't see a listing for 7.25 ring gear. Hope it isn't that size. I got the bearings, seals, etc already, so I'm itching to get the last pieces, RING and PINION!

Never heard of a 7.25.

Sometime in late 80's I think, the 7.5" 10 bolt was changed to 7.625" (7 5/8)

The SyTy rear is definately 7.625"

The front gearset is a 7.25.

Do a search for "Quality Gear" they are the oe supplier to GM. The box even comes with a GM part# on it.

I'm sure that a local powertrain type shop should be able to order them in for you.

"Quality Gear" definitely has the gears for our application, but the dude, Kurt, that works there is trying to locate the nearest supplier to my town. I'm in Northern NJ. And, quality gear is outta Canada. Anyone know of parts/powertrain shop that can get these gears in NJ? I didn't receive a call since I talked to Kurt, so I assume he had trouble with the search. Damn, these gears are a pain in the AS_ to find aftermarket. I need to pick up some mags and look over the advertisements fo Gear companies. Some 4Wheeler or Trucking mag must have something.

If you can't locate a set there I can get a set locally and ship them down to you.

They stock most part#'s here in town. Just bought a set for my fullsize last week.

Let me know if I can help
