ROCKFORD RACECRAFT

Whats up with Rockford Racecraft? I have made numerous
attempts to contact them and have not heard nothing back
for months. Anybody out there know? I would like to get some
"TUNING" done to my TY. Is there anybody up in the Madison WI
area that anybody knows about? My truck (when I stored it) last week
was not running well to say the least. It wasn't knocking, just seems
like all season it was getting slower. I did all the tune up stuff, and
the vacuum lines (which were toast) and still no improvement. I
was planning on the fuel pump this winter, and when I pull it out of
it's hibernation, I would like to get it running like it should. Any help
would be great.
THANKS. Jim
Who is the owner of the Syclone in Sauk City WI? Seen it yesterday,
and didn't get a chance to ask him
. All Black and in great shape!

Rick,

Love the motion picture - definitely catches the eye, among
other things. A couple of requests to see the face and what's
under it all , so we can all fantasize. A name and phone # would
also be appreciated.

You want tuning? Don't go to Rockford. E-mail some of the Chitown guys and they will probably hook you up, you'll learn something, and you won't be worse off than when you started, like you would be at RR.

According to RR, you can get an idea of how much HP a truck is making by letting other customers drive it and launch it. NICE.

I went to them when they were working out of a 2 car garage
and were just starting out. They were very personable back
then. I guess if you arn't a TV star or somebody important your
$$$$ ain't no good. I would love to hook up with some of the
Chi Town Crew. I purchased my TY in Downers Grove IL. and
seen several Sy's floating around there the day I bought mine.
I would like the chance to actually learn something, rather than
paying someone else to do it for me. I ain't afraid to get dirty, and
can turn a wrench, just need some direction. Plus when the advice is
free the beer and wings come a bit easier :D Hope to get some replies
from the Chi town crew and hook up !! Thanks for the input.

Ahhh how I love to hear the truth spoken 8) Anyways, Jim the Chitown crew would be glad to help you, what are you looking to do? Post all your mods including tune up info, any problems, and what you are looking to do or any goals you may have and we'll take it from there. To anyone out
there who is willing to learn and get dirty (read "have fun") the Chitown crew and STG Racing peeps are there to help you guys, and before you know it you'll be doing most everything yourself, which is gooder trust me!

All I am looking to do is get the truck running like it
should. I replaced the wires with stock GM's new plugs
cr4ts, replaced vacuum lines with Ian's kit. New cap &
rotor (Accel). Changed all fluids with Sythetics (all the time)
I checked the Turbo, no play. K&N in stock box.
Truck just seems a little weak. I timed myself 0-60 in 6.4 sec.
with a 5 lb launch. Did approx 90 in qtr. mi.
I had a 92 TY and it was much faster. It did 0-60in 5.0 flat
with a new stock turbo (from RR) So I know what it is capable of!
I want to get this one to at least that. I am open to a turbo upgrade
and all the safety/reliable mods I have seen. The technology
for these trucks has came along way since I had my 92'. I will
be replacing the fuel pump over the winter, possibly the gas
tank as well (since they are so cheap). What about injectors?
Do they go bad? Are they cleanable? (next to the bottle stuff).

Thoughts????

Good job on the tune up, keep in mind their are better wires than the stockers but you should be fine for now, how did you time the 0-60 and 1/4? The fuel pumps are known to die out so that is another good spot to check, don't forget to change the fuel filter also. The injectors are pretty good as they are, cleaning them seems to be a crap shoot. But before you go the cleaning route I'd suggest checking your timing, to reset it to zero you have to disconnect the tan wire located in the footwell of the passenger seat. If you search the Tech archives I believe their are specific instrustions with photos etc on this...next thing I would do for sure is to obtain data logging capabilities, you really need to see what is going on first and then take if from there otherwise it can turn into a guessing game as what to try next. Once you have some real numbers we can take it from there, my truck is so far from stock I don't even know what people out there prefer, anyone on the datalogging of a stock like truck??? You are right that it should run stronger. What kind of boost gauge are you running? The stock electronic one is a POS, get a manual one and T it into one of the intake lines. What RPM are the shifts at? Most of this info you'll get most accurately from datalogging. How many miles does the truck have on it? Enough for now....RR

Headlights I don't need no stinking headlights!! Brakes are gooder, Pablo is getting me a manual brake booster and master cylinder. Driveshaft has been cleaned up and will be reinstalled tomorrow. I told you the oil leak isn't really a leak its the breather on the valve cover. Park/Reverse lockout is Bill's job  . Wiring is gonna have to wait until we can do it right, leaving it as is until racing is over. I'm ready to run 9's who needs 10's  0X :drinking:   0X :drinking:

RRC probably dont want to waste time tuning all you "stockers".

Actually there are many valid points about Guy's uncontactability status... At first RR was just a side hobby.. part time devotion if you will.. eventually leading to his full time interest... Sorry but it's hard for me to believe that not being available to your potential customers is a good business image unless you don't want to be in buisness or are hiding from somebody... I've heard countless times of people sending him emails or phoning RR's telephone number only to get the voicemail and not receive a return call... I've even tried helping these people with "better" contact information to help them make the purchases they so desperately had tried doing by the regular methods with no success... I can understand being busy with local buisness, but then why not have someone to answer those calls or at least return them...? Money is money.. and buisness is buisness... have to be available and have good Customer Service... Guy's been hard to get ahold of for years unless you had his cell number... still I've put buisness through RR twice in thousand dollar increments... but it took my persistence to make it happen.... recently tried contacting RR about a potential purchase and have yet to receive any response ... So make of that what you will..... :-?
