Runs badly

Re: Runs badly

Ok, some update here. First I tried it stock chip and tune. Now I purchased remanufactured ECM and put my turbotweak chip, 3bar map and 60 injectors in. Exactly same. But now I can clearly see that it's afr relative; when running open loop and lambda is somewere 0.7 to 0.8 idle is smooth amd no stumbling and misses, but then I set it to go closed loop and see my wb going towards 1 it starts to cough and misfire. Hmm...

Sounds just like mine. Mine runs great in open loop, terrible in closed loop. I'm making small progress on it. What made a big difference for me is I checked my valve lash. This is the 3rd time my valve lash was really loose on me. Changed out the rocker nuts, so hopefully that helps. Maybe give that a try? Like DaveP says, it's free to do.

Gotta be something in the CL control circuit then with the sound of it. Sensor, wire or both.
Did you short the temp sensor, or run it disconnected to simulate a cold engine? Does it change any either way?

Cant remember all the details in the previous posts, but are you running NB (simulation) from the TT chip or are you running a stock Bosch NB O2 sensor. If 'simulated' have you pinned everything correctly at the ecm (if appropriate) and is/are the connections sound?
Do you have the right TT set up for AEM/Plx? Although I believe this will possibly only affect wot AFR, but not 100% sure on that if you are using it in NB simulation mode - just a thought.
Could be a 'bad' or 'knockoff' O2 sensor screwing readings.

Ok, thanks for responses. It was actually my plan next to pull valve covers and check lashes, good point there. Truck had exactly same issues with stock setup and new O2 sensor. TT is setup'd for my vems wbO2. Afr readings are what they should be it goes straight to 14.7 (λ =1) but runs poorly.
What can make it run so bad, when little richer runs much more better?

Still here... :( Now it has new distributor, coil, wires... only thing fixed is jumping tach. I made compression test, all good numbers. Idle in closed loop is still rough with misfires... :dunno:

Pull the plugs off the ECU and check to make sure all of them are making contact with the pins and actually in place inside the plug. I just found 2 pins that were pushed out a bit. The TT chip made a massive difference with all of my issues, and the loose connections were intermittent. Runs super smooth now. Check those pins on the plugs and use a pick to move the part of the square pin that contacts the pin on the ecu towards the center. I literally just did this.

Thanks for input. No goal there. I took all connectors off one by one and pressed them a bit, but still runs like crap...

This nightmare grinds on... even get worse: When start engine, just after 1-2 seconds fuse ECM B blows and engine (naturally) dies. :shoot:
