scan tool for knock only

i know we've disussed this before, and nothing really got started on this, so i hope to keep this thread alive untill we come up with a solution.

a way to monitor knock without a laptop. without the light just flashing. a knock gauge is what i'm speaking off.
i geuss me and about 80% of the active board members are verry intrested in these.
i know that some honda guys are using some simple obd1 screens and processors to monitor all kinds of thing.and they have it.
once again, we can somehow monitor it from the aldl port and have the signal put out into a screen or just get the info before the ecm.
i think this tool might be more important than a wbo2. it will keep your engine alive, and we need it.
so please somebody step up and make these units i think people will pay $300 just for this one.

That says nothing about Knock "Peak Values - AFR, Duty Cycle, ECT, IAT, MAP, RPM, TPS, and VSS" :2cents:

They already have them for a lot of Applications for there Sanmaster and I bet they can make one up pretty easy if there is enough interest in them.

When I talk to Mike a few weeks ago he said the only reason they have not made them for the sy/ty is because there was not enough interest they need at least 50 orders to do it and price would be around $280 plus shipping.

So if you want want start sending emails and asking for them :tup:

I had one in my TTA they are nice especially for monitoring knock.

Has anyone tried out the aftermarkets options already out there? MSD Knock Alert, Knock link/knock block, or just modified something else thats available?

Do anyone know the part number and/or freq of the stock knock sensor?

Its the ECS module mounted extarnal and sends a signal to the ecm or is it internal? My guess is internal but sure is going to look at some diagrams tonight if I can find any....

EDIT: ESC module is internal

as you know him, i think you should call him, we can do a GP. and see if we can hit the 50 within a month or so. if we don''t reach it, he can deside if he goes for it or not. this way it's easy to see if he can make it finacial atractive without being burned.

i think the problem with most of them is that you are adding an extra knock sensor to the block., so you still don't know if the ecm is picking up knock or not.
i know that xs-something makes a cool knock light that takes false knock away.

Yep, absolutely correct. As the aftermarket ones dont have a good reputation (because of several reason) the best thing would be a unit that utilize the ecm signal The only ones I have seen that uses stock sensor is the one that use the signal of the extarnal esc, but these will obviosly not work for a syty unless you hook them directly up to the correct points at the circuit board of the ecm.

In other words I belive if you want a gauge to see what the ecm see you need to modify the ecm and at that moment that is very far away from something the regular user wants to do.

If wee only had a extarnal esc module this would be a very easy mod, but as we dont its alot more complicated.

Off course some kind of OBD/aldl tool would solve this but then the making is much more a software programming issue and I am not familier with the languages used on diagnostic tools, but maybe as thunderace31 stated, if we show enough interest some of the larger companies might just put some of their effort into making it. If so it will basicly bee a scan-tool ment for permanent use.

Yes they are nice and I dont see why 50 people wouldnt be interested and send an email I love my Scanmaster in Both My T-type and my GN I watch them for knock on every run and its on the top of the dash in my face so I cant miss it. Its also great for setting the O2 volts and making sure you have full open throttle too. Great tool every performance car or truck should have one Boosted or not. :tup:

Still in beta testing, but probably could be released is a knock output feature in code59. Paul has it working on his ty for a while now.

Basically we are sending a 0-5v signal out based on knock, that can be feed into any 0-5v gauge, lights, whatever you want. O yea, we can configure it all also.

I think Dig is ready to release this feature but best for him to speak up in here also.

Not everyone is running Code 59 and many dont want to like myself so something needs to be made to allow all users to use it on the truck stock or modded. :tup:

I would like to see a scan tool made myself, in 10 years in syty world, personally sending Bob Bailey files, offering to help make it happen it never has, nor will it probably ever IMO.

I think unless something new happens a scanmaster is like pissing in 1 hand wishing in the other deal.

We can let v23 out, I think. Really the only major difference from v18 is the knock output.
There's also an enhanced RPM variable for those running higher than 6400 RPM.

Even if people don't want to use a gauge, you can set it up to just run a light bulb at a certain level.

It's sorta ironic that this only works in code59, which tends to be better tuned and less susceptible to knock vs. the other stuff running around.

If there are enough emails in a short time it will. Persistence pays off 90% of the time. If everyone that sees this post sends an email they will do it.
Everyone has to do it thought cant just be 4-5 people needs to be everyone that will purchase one if there made maybe not today but at some point you will buy one. Just email them how hard is it ? and it only takes a few seconds to do :2cents:

Is the chip the mention already in our ecm or is it something that has to be fabricated in to make it work?? Evey thing is so complicated on this stuff. Its nuts!
