I have a spearco kit from RPM .... and was thinking of getting rid of it. I hate having to "refill" anything ( which is why I am about to ditch my no2 setup on the lt1 .... but thats beside the point ) .

Do these things use a "window switch" and spray from a certain RPM or do you have to manually turn them on to use them?

Do most people just run the yellow bottle HEET ? I may be able to deal with that since its stocked in a lot of places and cheap.

Is it worth the tuning/install hassle ( does it put out HP? ) ? Part of me wants to use this on my 67' 142 blown 327 to keep the temps down. Why dont I hear of v8's using meth injection too much? Is it mainly beneficial in turbo apps only?

yep, you need a turbo or supercharger to really benefit. Mine is progresive, you set it to come one at a certain psi and reach max. spray at a certain psi. All it does is allow you to run more boost and timing(a lot more ) than you could with pump gas. Adding alky to a Sy running stock boost and timing will probably slow it down. :2cents:

Mine is a set spray at a adjustable boost pressure (Snow Stage 1). I am able to run 87 octane if I want. The 50-50 mix not only eliminates knock but also increases octane 10 to 20 percent. It also makes the charge denser (i.e. cooler) which increases HP. I have checked my pistons and cylinders using a bore scope and found them very clean. The intake manifold looks cleaner too. I assume that my valves also benefit as the mix should help clean the entire intake system. I only use cheap windsheld washer fluid.

You guys ROCK , thanks a ton for the quick replies. Washer fluid?! Maybe I will keep my setup, and even buy a 2nd for the 6lb boosted 327?! Seems like a reasonable upgrade.

So the actual unit that comes with the kit monitors the output ( progression ) , I dont need anything extra? With my no2 setup I need a msd box with a "window switch" to tell it when to spray and when to turn off. ---

No additional switches necessary.
The progressive controller will manage all of that for you.

On my old school SMC is not progressive but you set the turn on point (PSI) and then the pump speed.

One warning on alky/meth.
If you tune with it you better make sure the bottle never runs dry.
The ECM does not know to cut boost or fuel if the low alky light comes on.
Soooo if you are pushing the limits of pump gas with alky and then you go dry, you end up lean and hot and that breaks stuff quickly. expensive stuff...

Dig is working on something to solve this problem in $59. So if you run out, it will either revert to a differnet fuel table or multipler. Not sure yet how it will be handled but it is in the works.

I have the SMC Kit on my SY. I love it. I am able to run 25psi of boost on 93 octane with no problems. The alky kit starts spraying at 10psi automatically so I just fill it and go. I have heard of using windshield washer fluid but that kind of scares me a little. What is the difference between using washer fluid and methanol besides the cost? I use straight Methanol with the grape or cherry scented pump lube. I use the scented lube because when I blew the doors off of my buddies Mustang, he said the Methanol stunk so I figured I would scent it so at least when I beat them they get a fresh, enjoying scent.

I planned to wire the alky up with a relay that would close the boost solenoid when it was out.

We talk a little at the Nats 2 years ago about using a pressure sensor similar to ones used to measure fuel pressure with electric gauges.
So if you lose alky pressure it would revert to a different table.

So there is HEET, Washer Fluid, Water, and Straight meth ( where to get that!? ) ... I couldnt imagine filling that with HEET, lol (the bottles are SO small) ---

Yeah, I have that cell mounted in my bed.

As for what to use, I use 100% methanol. I buy mine from the local VP Fuel dealer. Can't find a reason to use anything else

Walmart supertech stuff is good... it contains 40% meth, super cheap and the blue dye doesn't hurt anything. Stay away from the green, yellow or orange stuff as it contains glycol and will give your sy a hell of a smoke show.
