Scored a set of Corvette wheels. Going to need work.

I got these off the ebay after seeing another member running them and I kinda stole the idea. The first picture is how they are right now and the second is my goal. They are 17s and look close to the stock wheels and they also can run stock center caps (which I will need to find).

The plan is to remove that inner ring, polished lip and silver powdercoat on the wheel and red GMC lettering in the centercap.

How they are now:

The rough idea:

I've always wanted to see someone actually do this mod. Good luck! Be sure to post pics of the progress!

Dont quote me on it but I dont see how it wouldnt be. The part of the wheel he wants to ditch is just cosmetic, cant imagine its structural at all. I would also leave them alone, but thats just my opinion. Look forward to seeing your progress!

I think they would look much better without the ring. I think they look similar to a stock rim if you remove that ring.

I though I saw a pic of those wheels having a stress crack on the big spoke, if so, I don't know if I would want to cut the small portion out at all.

Looking at the on-the-car before and after pictures, I don't think the difference between the two is significant enough to justify paying someone to do this, or spending the time to do them yourself. I wouldn't do all of that and end up with something that looks almost like the oem wheels.

I agree. I used to run 93 sawblades on mine.

This project is going to be put on hold until I get back from Afghanistan but I hope to get it done while I am still here.

As far as safety issues I would hope that the structure is not dependent on that portion of the wheel but there is always that risk.

I know a lot of people don't see much difference but I am really picky about details and this is my compromise between stock wheels and the Super Stockers from Sportmachines. I will post up what I can and let everyone know how it goes.

I was down to only one good spoke on my chromed 1990 rim.

Lucky enough to go to a car wash after letting the truck sit for so long it got dusty while I diagnosed a squeak in the left front end.

The first and last thing I would do is just paint the extra metal gloss black.

One of these days I will make a wall clock out of that rim.

I was going to cut mine too but the ring looked semi structural on the ones I have. Cant remember for sure. I removed the clear coat that was peeling and they are in polish this week.
