In 2004, I sold my 68 Charger & got into this SYTY gig. Recently I have stumbled upon a decently priced 68 Charger that only needs paint.

I'm torn as to what to do.

Selling the Syclone nets extra cash in my pocket for a little bit + the Charger. Syclone $11,000 - $7000 Charger = $4000 cash in hand.

Specs on 1968 Charger: 318 car w/440 w/.509 cam & headers, front/rear disc, 70 HD front end & suspension, 9” rear-end & extra set of doors.

Pics of Charger below.

Re: Sell Syclone for Charger??

Tough call. I love my friends '68 (also was a 318 car, now has some honking 440+ with nitrous). It was a stocker when he bought it in high school and has turned it into a scarey, beautiful monster. There's nothing like the design of the '68.

Still, i don't think I'd sell the Sy for one. I'd love to have both some day.

I also am so anti-loan right now. I've been listening to Dave Ramsey alot. (financial guy) He says if you want a toy, pay for it. But ONLY if you can afford it.

Code what?
If you already thought about it then its to late. It's like a cheating ex-girlfriend, do I take her back or not? Or in Jimmy's case "Him"

Make your Syclone faster instead . 2 money pits are not better than 1 .
Bigger turbo , motor upgrades , more hp etc . IMO anyway .

Stick w/the Sy, Mopars are known as slowpars.:rotf:

They don't hook up on the street w/power, if it can make any power.:rotf:

I raced a guy w/a 440 67 GTX that made 450+ HP(not stock, made more power than stock) , it was not even close, all he did was spin & once it hooked up, it was way too late for him to even catch up.

Mopars secret to speed is that they are light weight as compared to a, say a Chevelle. Chargers weigh less than a Chevelle.

Sorry all you Mopar fans.

I had a 1970 Dodge dart , 340 w/hood scoops , orange w/black bumble bee strips, scat pack package, wish I had kept it,, but it was way, waaay slower than my stock engined Sy.:2cents:

Whether the Charger holds sentimental value or not, its a nice car. Its not a syty, but that might be a good thing!

I guess you need to ask yourself why you are thinking about this - to get away from syty or get back into the mopar.

It's up to you. I had the chance to get a rust free 70 oiginal 440 plum crazy challenger that hasn't been on the road for 25 years for free. (It was my dads that he bought slightly used in dec 70). It had many original parts as it still ran and drive. I would have had to sell my Syclone to properly restore it. I turned it down. It's just not me plus I would have been obligated to keep his car. If it had been a 65-67 Corvette, I wouldn't have batted an eye and sold my Syclone in a second.

Re: Sell Syclone for Charger??

That's a tough decision....If you're like me and get attached to youe vehicles, you'll prb miss the Sy. It's extremely rare, fast, and gets much respect. The Charger is ultra sleek and will get lots of attention. But, they are everywhere. You can't go to a show and not see one, or five.

I traded my fully restored and lifted 86 K5 Blazer even up for my Syclone and couldn't be happier. I do miss the blazer though, it was pretty mean. Of all my rides, the one thing I noticed is that the Syclone prb gets the most questions. I also know how hard and expensive it can be to work on multiple cars. They seem to all get done just a little bit at a time. If you can be fine with that, keep your Syclone and get the Charger. It just depends on what type you are, wether you can just move from one project onto the next one and stay focused. I noticed that when I start to get burnt out modding the Magnum RT I'll put it away and work on the Syclone or Fairlane, and then go back to the Mag in a few months. It keeps me busy, but none of them ever get 100% done (do they ever?).

I wouldn't trade the Syclone if you are unsure. They are hard to find and yours is pretty clean!

Re: Sell Syclone for Charger??

it all comes down to $$$$ and which one is gonna give you the most enjoyment.

compare the market between the two... I don't know if 68's are worth as much as 69's. I'd take either personally. But if you're gonna have to dump a ton of money into the 68 after buying it just to get it as nice as your syclone, then maybe you should reconsider. Part availability is another thing to consider... you get some soccer mom on the cell phone not paying attention and she broadsides you, which one is going to be easier to fix? OEM cladding will eventually be gone.

the sy will always have a 'cool' factor amongst us and a few other randoms who remember what these are. But they're not attention grabbers by any means. The charger on the other hand, is always gonna get you lookers and talkers, whether you want them or not haha. Sometimes I'm just not in the mood to hear stories from some poor bastard who used to have an awesome hot rod but sold it after he got married and had kids.

although i voted to ditch the sy and get the charger! :p ...just on the fact that they're way easier to work on. If something goes wrong it's one of 3 things, fuel, air, or ignition... syty something goes wrong the possibilities are almost endless. Vacuum lines, computers, chips, sensors, blah blah blah...

what car shows are you going to??? I never see 68-69 chargers at car shows or around town anywhere! Every once in a while I'll see Bo Duke aka John Schneider driving around town in 1 of the 8 general lee's that he kept from the show, but that's it. Here 67-69 camaros are a dime a dozen. Maybe it's a regional thing.

Re: Sell Syclone for Charger??

It is regional...extremely. When I lived in Cali, I never saw any old Mopar. Here in the Midwest they are everywhere. Driving cross country and being a car guy I noticed when I stopped seeing Jaguars and started seeing Mustangs and Chargers.

Re: Sell Syclone for Charger??

I hardly ever see first gen Camaros just driving around town. Car shows, that's different.
Same for 60's Mopars, not too often you just see them driving around on the streets.
