These trucks are cursed
ok so originally i wanted a typhoon but after a year and a half of searching and test driving, i ended up settling on a syclone. well now the time has come where i have a new job making a lot more money, which leaves me with extra money to throw at the syclone. But, considering that i always wanted a ty... i cant help but wonder if i should i sell my truck and get a typhoon before dumping a bunch of money into it? i just figure in the long run ill be happier, cause ill have what i want... but on the flip side ive already got quite a bit of time and money into my syclone. So now im asking the community for their opinion.

My friend wants my syclone and will gladly give me 10k for it. which isnt too bad since its got 81k on it, and has some minor issues mechanically and physically that need to be taken care of. if i were to get a ty id be looking for a lower mileage red/red or blk/blk, maybe even a grn/gry. i dont really want something with very low mileage cause i know id eff up the truck and feel guilty... so maybe something with 45-70k...

what do you guys think?

I'd say get the Ty if it's the vehicle you want. I love my Sy, but if something were to ever happen to it, I wouldn't be bothered if I replaced it with a Ty. They are bad ass.

Wow, I could've written this. It really comes down to your personal needs. I was in the market for a Ty when the opportunity to buy a Sy came along, and I just wanted "IN" to the SyTy community. I made the right decision, got a great truck and love being back in the "circuit."

That being said, if the "right" Ty came along and I didn't have to shell out much more money, I might be inclined to trade. Reason is that I'd like to take the truck places on the weekends WITH the family (2 kids), and I just can't do it in the Sy. In a PERFECT world, I'd have one of each (like my hero, Joe Keller  ) and one of them would be a daily driver.

Re: sell the sy and get a ty?

I had my sy about 1 or 2 months and dumped about 1000 into it and probably 20 hours of my time or more when I was at work and could have been making money (I'm a flat rate tech). I bought it for $6500, just over 7K after tax and title and all. Then sold it a couple weeks back for 7500 so I can buy a TY. The only thing I regret so far is that I made that truck fast and now some other guy in town is running around with it and everyone talks about how fast it is. But when I get a ty I plan on being faster than I made that sy.

keep the sy...if you need more seats, get another sy.....get the ty and you'll regret it!! I've had a couple of each and there's no comparison imo....you'll spend all your spare time chasing squeaks and rattles....just borrow a ty for a weekend and live out your ty dream.... :rotf: ty's were made for girls!!!

:stupid: .......Anyway, Ty's kick a** if you always wanted a Ty and have a friend who wants the Sy do it. At least youll know the Sy is in good hands (hopefully). Dont stick with something you didnt originally want if you can get what you do want. The opportunity may never come back.

If that's what you want, I'd say go for it. Have you driven a Ty though? They do have a few common squeaks and rattles, but more interior room and are slightly more luxurious. Make sure that you really want a Ty over a Sy, and if your opinion is still the same, do it

Re: sell the sy and get a ty?

If you can get 10K for your truck, what are you doing on here asking us for :p ??? Right now the market for these trucks in the crapper in a BIG way :( . If I was in a "must sell" situatiion, I KNOW that I would get hosed selling it given the current perceived market value of these trucks...

By all means sell it and get what you always wanted. These trucks aren't getting any newer so the chances of you finding a relatively "unmolested" low mileage truck are going to get slimmer the longer you wait. Just make sure that the intermission that you are 4.3 turbo AWDless is as short as possible :D ! Also, be SURE to remove the PA system (great for yelling at those who don't know how to drive) that you have in the syclone so that you can install it in the ty when you get it  !

Re: sell the sy and get a ty?

hmmm....well if the ty is what you always wanted, go for it, esp if somone will buy it for 10k, the ty isent to much slower then a sy, and they still lanch like a bat out of hell! I say go for the ty, esp if ya got kids ! I no this because my Dad my Sister and myself, had to shove in my sy with a bench seat from a s10 for a 8hour ride "had ta rip the center concil out in storage now" im changing the interier soon and putting the stock parts in storage.
Go with the ty its your dream truck!

Typhoons are very "comfortable" trucks, you can recline the seat, the leather is a little more comfy, and you have room to throw shit in the back....with that said, Servando is right, everytime you take the truck out you will find a new rattle, which is one of the biggest downfalls of the Ty's IMO....that rattle shit would never fly, in todays automotive world.

They are both very fun trucks.....but if it were me, buy a Ty and drive it, keep the Sy nice and quick.

Re: sell the sy and get a ty?

typhoon is great until you try to go fast
at rockingham the announcer saw me running 111mph and was telling the crowd how fast it would be without the heavy rear side glass.
at least the girl that was handing out the timeslips said "damn" when she saw what i was running.

Re: sell the sy and get a ty?

In my experience I would say keep the Sy. Not that I have anything against Ty's..I really want one myself...But Syclones were made first, that made them a novelty first...a lot of guys bought them and stored them..This is why you can find a 2000 mile Syclone still for sale...People saw the practicallity of the Typhoon and Drove them...Im not saying you can't find a prestine, untouched, low mile Ty...your just gonna have to look harder...Don't listen to anyone..get the vehicle that makes you happy and drive the thing..
