Sell the Sy, buy a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8

If you get a Typhoon, you won't have to worry about taking a tent when you go CAMPING!! Fold down the back seat, lay out your air mattress and sleeping bag... you're set. If you get cold, just start it up and run the heater.

I'll never, for the life of me, figure out why someone would be willing to pay so much more for a low mileage truck with no defects, instead of spending the maybe $2k to make a higher mileage truck MINT. Sure, if its a rattle trap shitbox, that's one thing, but if its a clean, tight truck that just happens to have some saddle time on it, that's a whole other story. Take mine for example.....a beautiful drivers seat, a uncracked dash from a junkyard, some paint on the cladding, and an A/C retrofit, (what, maybe $1,500 total investment?), and you wouldn't be able to tell it from a 30k mile truck.

"dash from a junkyard"...no thanks
IMO low mileage on these trucks means alot. The same for wear and tear. As tempermental as these trucks are, why take the chance on someone elses headache, you'll only end up spending the same amount in the long run.
If you don't have the bank roll to go after the perfect truck then fine, get what suits your budget and needs.
If you're building a project truck, fine
If you're doing a rebuild or put-together, fine
But if your lookin to collect something, then you gotta go after the perfect specimen.
Its not like you see Ferrari's and Lambo's goin off at auctions for high-dollars with Maaco repaints and junkyard parts.
Not that you buy a Ty for the resale value, but low miled, no mods and untouched paint is more sought after no matter what the vehicle.
We can agree to disagree on this subject, cause I'm not lookin to change your mind and you won't change my mind. IMO both arguments are justified, which is why there is a market for these trucks. You can spend 25-30k for a primo low miled truck. You can spend 15-20k for a very nice mid miled truck or 10-15k for a nice high miled truck. Either way you are lookin at close to 5 grand to go up a level or down a level
mattw said:I completely disagree with you.. With these trucks mileage means nothing.. Doesn't matter if its got 5000 or 100,000 miles... You will end up:
replacing transmission
replacing ball joints
searching for and fixing sqeaks and rattles
diagnosing and fixing ignition problems
etc.. the list goes on and on..
I'd much rather save my money, get a high mileage truck, fix it up and end up with something just as nice(and much cheaper) in the long run...
Also, as soon as you put some miles on a low mile sy/ty its value starts to fall quickly.. If it had higher miles to start the value would not fall nearly as quickly..
OK....but depending on where in that spectrum you buy, determines how fast or how soon you'll need the money to replace it all.mattw said:I completely disagree with you.. With these trucks mileage means nothing.. Doesn't matter if its got 5000 or 100,000 miles... You will end up:

peace of mind. I'd rather own a 300k mile truck that I have changed everything on and know every detail of than a 60k mile truck that I know absolutely nothing about...666 Sothis 666 said:....but a truck with 40k costs more than a truck with 100k and the difference in price you could just replace all those parts that are broken. this is true, but what's the point of taking the time to do it, if you dont have to?
