Should syty.net go Nuked?

It requires more setup time im sure, but the question is... is it too damn buisy for our users? Does it offer things we want?

I would like to see a newer style look. The current setup is quick and to the point, get the job done, and is simple to hop around.....but it lacks things that other boards have.

If the front page for syty.net had a better setup for news, a featured truck of the month, weekly polls for whatever, and some other sort of decent content.....i think it'd make for a better site. People not that interested trucks that browse to the current front page probably aren't drawn in by it, becuase there isn't much to read/do on the front page.

Those examples may be too much. A little change to the Home Page would not hurt. I am content with what is here. I am not the one that has to make the changes though and what is here works ok for me. I guess if you want to make some changes it would be welcomed.

Those pages are a cool idea IMO, just that don't overload them with 8 zillion links and hide the useful stuff.

as for the forum, i really like it and have grown quite comfortable with it.
the homepage does need some work.
we have MANY graphic artists here that could happily assist.
the other format is nice and all, but not really needed.
A minor face lift wouldnt hurt though. :wink:

either way, great job and ALL the effort is greatly appreciated.

i am......or well used to be on about 40 message boards. I use the message boards, my bookmarks are to all the forums, not the home pages. I dont really have any interest in them, our community is small enough to where if there is some new and exciting news, everyone knows about it soon enough anyway. May I make a suggestion?

PHPNuke is subject to frequent security problems, like at least one every month if not more. Therefore I would say it would be higher maintenance for the admins.

I would recommend using vBulletin.

I use that for my forums, and have had only one or two security issues in the past year, both of which were minor. Plus, it's pretty cheap. Something like $85 to buy, then after a year like $30 to renew the support and upgrade.

yeah im all for upgrades and what not, but i think we have a lot of flexibility already, and the hassle of another upgrade (all the dissapearing posts and whatnot) might not be worth the added flexibility, if it causes a weeks of problems and headaches for the guys maintaining this site.

I've spent most of the day reading about PostNuke and set it up on a test server. The phpBB is a seperate program on a seperate DataBase, so I don't think any security holes in PostNuke will affect phpBB.
I'm still researching PostNuke but so far it seems pretty cool.

I myself would not use php Nuke. I used to have it set up for one of my old clients that is no longer in buisness. And we would get different database errors a few times a week. But the end choice is up to you as it is ur site. Just my 2 cents

I like what we're currently using, the NUKE one seems real BUSY....

One thing I do miss is the LATEST POSTS link that works.

Since I have checked the option to always stay logged in, I can use this link at any time.
