Simple questions for addicts

Which way is the 93 typhoon fastest or which way is safer?
Shifting the tranny 1st - overdrive or starting in drive and finishing in overdrive, My freind who has owned a few said that you can shift the tranny safely, but i dont think so. I just bough this one and I dont know but it feels like the tranny has a shift kit in it it shifts well but hard is this normal?

I dont have any idea what the person did before me but it has only had one owner, the battery is not in under the hood, it has a trust (greddy) hose running off the ic charger, a imp boost gauge and
It has a kenne bell external cone filter (no airbox) on it but it is cracked and dirty, so i was also wondering where to get a K&N to replace it, because my parts stores dont have it.

I would also like to get a BOV put on the hardpipe that i am getting but dont know if i can do this with a stock setup, or which one to go with (hks ss, etc..) or even where to run the vaccum line. ???? I want to scare off thoose new Porsches :D

Thanks for the help I am in love with this thing already.

You will get quicker acceleration on the street and better ET's at the track starting off in "D" rather than "OD". This is because there is more line pressure in "D" than "OD". As a benefit, it is also easier on your transmission because the shifts will be more firm which means less slippage which in turn means less tranny killing heat... Just make sure that push the shifter forward (you don't have to push the button on top of the shifter, just "bump" it forward) into "OD" before you let off at highway speeds so that you don't annhilate your overrun clutches. You WANT the trans to shift hard and it is perfectly normal. I had the same impression when I got my truck as the trans seemed to shift VERY hard.

The K&N cone filter that most use is a eight inch cone K&N part number RE-0910. You can get it through any of the major mail order guys like Summit racing or Jeg's. There are a few members here who are vendors who could set you up also.

As far as the BOV goes, here are a few posts on them as they come up fairly regular...

A hard shift is very normal for these trucks. If you didn't have a hard shift , then your tranny is probably in need of being rebuilt.

A BOV isn't really necessary, as a lot of stock trucks still function well with 100,000+ miles on them. Most people find them to be mostly a fun addition to their trucks. It can be done, quite easily. You can get a hard pipe bent for you at any exhaust shop and then weld on a flange to it.

Really what you need to be doing is putting money down for a datamaster program and/or laptop so you can scan your truck. You can avoid and solve many problems with that tool. Also performing a Tune up with the approved ignition products is a must for a new owner.

When it comes to these trucks and all vehicles, if you want to make it fast you can choose two of the following without the other:

1)cheap
2)Fast
3)reliable

You will be faster and safer just leaving it in D.

Manually shifting your transmission from anything other than "D" to "OD" will have bad results. There is NO way that you will be able to shift as quickly/efficiently as the trans can shift itself. Doing stunts like that are guaranteed to make this a familiar sight for you and it will get expensive, QUICK .

"Transmission carnage, BTDT three times so far for me, three times for others..."

Just remember that your truck came with an automatic transmission NOT a manual one  ...
