Sliding rear window

Ken's Marlboro window for sale got me thinkin'....

Why couldn't a guy fab one of these?

Use a stock rear window.
A 70's big caddy 2-dr lift mechanism/track.
(heck, 80s montes/delta 88s/etc might even work)
Some sort of molding/track that would seal the window.

Or, a removable one that you could stow...

Re: Sliding rear window

I've thought of doing a custom one too. Del Sol's had them, some Nissan trucks (IIRC, it could be Toyotas), and a few others I'm forgetting about.

The early C3 Corvettes (68-72) had a removable setup that wouldn't be TOO had to replicate.

That Breezer setup looks kind dumb IMO. Probably easy to break into as well.

Re: Sliding rear window

Thought a lot about trying this project on a S-15.

The problem with the stock glass is that the corners are angular. The window will try to bind in the window track. Most sliding windows, CRL included, have squared-off sides so that the window rides smoothly in the track. AFAIK, you can't cut safety glass. Also, a window box built to enclose the stock glass will be difficult to install (almost too wide for the cab). The CRL box is narrower than the window opening to ease installation.

That was the one I was forgetting. I even own an '86 that has that feature

I was thinking of the old '74 Country Squire wagon we had... the back window rolled down.
It was roughly the right. size.

Old Merc Montereys in he late 60s had breezeway rear windows too... unreliable tho'.

Re: Sliding rear window

I've had the Breezer on my truck for years. Looks a little weird from the outside because it has a frame that protrudes out a little. But it seals perfectly and works great, when I remove it and lower the windows all of the buffeting is gone.
