smoking from the steering column

Hey all,

Has anyone ever had any smoking from the steering column in their trucks? I turned the key off in my syclone today and once the engine stopped the column started smoking? Any way I booked it home and it didnt happen again. I did some reading on here possibly a turn signal switch problem? My right brake light did go out earlier this week and I have yet to replace it. Just wondering if anyone has any other ideas to look at?

thanks

According to a quick search I just did, I would also check for blowby. Good luck and pray for the turn signal thing.

More reading by searching "smoke steering wheel"

Did it smell like an electrical issue? Usually pretty easy to smell the difference between oil and electrical smells. Searching "steering column smoke" will give you some things to look for.

Probably not, but just out of curiosity, did a fuse blow?
My truck did some weird shit and had a burning smell when the horn fuse blew.

Re: smoking from the steering column

I'll have to take a look at the fuses...

but i pulled all my kick panels down so i could get to the column. I started unplugging connectors looking for burnt terminals and such. I found one on top of the column. It is a blue connector directly at 12 o clock on the column. there is a black conncector right next to it that looks fine. Does anybody know what that connector is or controls? All i know is that the truck will not start without it plugged in. thanks for any ideas...

I am not 100% sure which one you talking about but the ignition is in that area.

I would rule out the engine first. Pull the oil fill cap off with the engine running, put your hand over the fill. It should not be push out air.
